My biggest disappointment after 400+ hours...

Post » Thu Feb 07, 2013 8:41 am

After many play-throughs, character concepts, re-do’s, mod tweaks, etc. etc... one thing still irks me in an otherwise AMAZING game...

Only the PC can smith well, improve armor/weapons, etc... the most legendary smith in all of Skyrim can’t even sharpen a Skyforge Steelsword past what I can do at level 8...

Only the PC can enchant items... not even Farengar the esteemed enchanter of Whiterun can place the lowest enchantment on an item of mine despite my gold...

It hurts the role-play possibilities and realism IMO... how can the PC be the only one in Skyrim who can improve Orcish armor? The ONLY person who will enchant items... not realistic, not RP friendly... and before you say it is for balance... please... charge insane amounts of money for these skills if need be, and if money is too easy to come by then that is where the balance is missing...

There was a thread on this not too long ago.

I agree though, it kind of ruins the immersion.

I’m sure there was... I just came back from a 3+ month hiatus and after getting ready to dive in again I found this bothering me as I try to re-roll a new character (Robb Stark)... 1H + Shield but no smithing (okay, maybe steel), but still... long game thinking I should be able to pay someone to enchant... anyone know a mod that addresses this?

Not even the enchanter mage in Winterhold will enchant armor for the Dragonborn, even though the option to ask exists.

I agree that it would have been nice to have npcs do crafting for the player, for a fee.

The answer is the same...Skyrim is designed for Hybrid...you need to do all those stuff yourself, the punishment of not doing those thing is inevitable...you need enchantment and you need upgrading or else you cannot keep pace with the enemies and you must do it yourself
