Old Meanings or Newer Meanings?

Some words have many different meanings. Both older and newer/current ones, and the question is simple... Do you prefer mostly the original meanings of certain words or the newer/current, and commonly used, meaning of that word or phrase?

As for me... I really don't mind most but there are some that are on my dislike list. One being is "make love". I go by the original meaning where making love simply means being peaceful, friendly, and caring to everybody you know and get other people to be like that as well to spread it... But there is the more newer meaning of that phrase that I simply do not like. I think I wouldn't have to explain at all... Same thing goes with the word "love". When I mean "love", I mean the strong feeling for someone (Either family, friends, or your special someone)... Nothing else...

I know there are more words and phrases out there that had changed over time too but can't think of them right now...

Well, "to make love" meant to woo someone, to flirt with them.

Which makes Cole Porter's "Night and Day" come across as a lot more... forceful sentiment... than when it was written.

"...let me spend my life making love to you..."

The phrase "bumping nasties" does seem to be considerably more accurate.

So if you say "I made love to a young girl" 100 years ago you were flirting with a woman in her early 20s, but if you say it today it means you're going to go to prison.
