I played Skyrim again after a few months hiatus, noticed there were no updates to download. Was a little disappointed, not sure whether to blame PSN or Bethesda, or a little of both.
The old bugs I ran into are still there: I have about a dozen side quests I can't finish, items in my inventory I can't get rid of because I already did the tasks but the items remained, my wife and a female companion disappeared and never reappeared, the thieves' guild won't talk to me, I can't do the unusual stones quest because no one can assess them for me.
Some locations are blocked off because I can't do the side quests, including one Dwemer location in the south.
I am level 59 now, have all the dragon shouts, am archmage, head of the assassins' guild, killed the king, killed the rebel leader, probably have enough gold now to buy whole towns, it's a little frustrating.
Given the hundreds of millions of dollars profit this game made, why aren't some of the more obvious bugs being fixed? I am starting to think MBAs who don't play games are in charge. Take note of what happened to WoW and Runescape lately please.
I liked Oblivion, though the Oblivion gates became a little tiresome after a while. And there were some bugs in that game too, I don't know if they were ever fixed.
There is so much potential with the Elder Scrolls world created, esp. IMHO with the Dwemer story arc. You could do a whole game just with that one it seems to me. Also, republishing the original games using a more up-to-date graphics engine would make the old games relevant again, they would sell I think. I would buy them.
Bugs I still noticed last night:
-- my wife disappeared while we were exploring up north, she just disappeared. I went back to the original pub in Whiterun where I met her, she never reappeared even though I waited for hours. She is not at the Temple of Mara in Riften either.
-- later female companion disappeared as well, but she had a tendency to foolishly charge at every threat by herself, including dragons. She may have been killed. I admired her courage though.
-- Japhet's Folly is a dangerous place to revisit, you get trapped in there and have to revert to a previously saved game to recover your character. A level 59 archmage can't walk through walls by becoming ethereal? Why not? Why can't we just blast through rock, the maps seem to be permanent.
-- Love story, I saved the girl but my quest inventory still tells me to go talk to two people... I talked to both of them but they don't remember me or care.
-- unusual gems, I have 21 but no one cares, not even in Riften.
-- I have four or five musical instruments belonging to different people which cannot be returned. quests are all completed already, the items just never were deleted from my inventory when I returned them.
-- one book cannot be deleted, I already returned it but the quest is still listed in my list. The original chest has been empty for a long time now, can't return the book to it, can't drop the book, can't give the book to the person again because that was already done.
-- Dwemer location down south won't let me in.
-- some places I already visited during quests now won't let me in, claiming I need a key. The Thalmor embassy, one ruin in the NE, and one other place I can't remember now, I was tired by then.
-- couldn't join the Thieves Guild in Riften, and can't get the initial contact to say anything other than "Yes?" when I approach him in the Riften market.
-- side quest tells me to get someone's lineage papers, already done, no idea what the next step ought to be.
-- someone in the Black Briar home did the assassins' ritual, but there is no note, no quest, no request -- no idea why or who did the ritual. I am guessing it is either due to the rivalry of the two brothers or due to the one who is in jail and seems to be a psychopath.
-- maps still show Riften, other places a blue even though the rebellion is over -- their leader is dead, his body is still on the lap of the Jarl who replaced him when he sits on his throne.
