Invisible walls between zones?

Post » Sat Feb 09, 2013 12:18 pm

I really hope invisible walls aren't implemented in the game. it goes against everything that is elder scrolls. If zones MUST be separated somehow which i still think is a bad idea, but invisible walls aren't the way to go. an alternative could be what Guild Wars 2 did with loading screens between zones, but the Devs stated they want to stay true to TES and if open world isn't staying true to the series i don't know what is.

separating the factions areas could be done in other ways such as mountain ranges, rockslides on roads, giant walls or impassible guarded barricades but invisible walls are incredibly immersion breaking and IMO is bad game design.

I agree with you.

First of all, I HATE the idea that you cannot go into opposing Faction land. To me that just plain stupid. There are a lot of other ways to prevent ganging that are a lot less extreme.

But if a "land lock" had to be implemented, the only good way to do that is with mountains and maybe some forts.

I am praying that Zenimax will abondon the immersion killing idea of "land lock" once and for all.

Edit: If i see an open area that I cannot cross because of an invisible wall, i am going to cry.....

i can see where they are coming from when they want to separate faction areas, it adds to the idea of conflict although it would be nice to explore. you can always create new characters for that though. they could make ways for players to get into other faction areas but make them wanted criminals with guards constantly after them and possible other players doing extra damage to the intruding players. they could allow people in but deter people with the fact that they will be hunted and probably die until they get out with the only real incentive of being there being exploration which could be done with ease by makng a new character

It isn't even a big deal really, I doubt they will have invisible walls that lock you out, however if they do it won't make or break the game for me. I play it because ES is a great IP with lots of lore and story. Immersion is nice but in Skyrim I was seperated by an invisble wall to get into morrowind!?!?!?!? oh no!!! yeah it was immersion breaking and ruined the whole game for me. Faction locks are fine and definately needed. PVP players will whine they can't gank people in the other lands and if the PVE players get ganked they will whine. Keep it in Cyrodil and keep the PVE in the other factions. Make 3 characters and see all the land. If the factions were at war you wouldn't even be walking around in their land you would be killed on the spot. Make guards that 1 shot you when you try to enter the other land no matter what and i'd be good with it. I don't really want to be walking around and see a High Elf in Skyrim, especially during the time this game is taking place. That would be far worse than not being able to go to High Rock on my Nord. Just my opinion though so don't rage to hard over all this.

There won't be any invisible walls. When you get to the edge of the map in Skyrim and you can't go any further what do you see? A valley off in the distance with a river in it and mountains on the other side of that...this is what you will see in ESO...the developers aren't stupid...
