Fixing Lighting Without ENB

I'm trying to fix the lighting in my Skyrim installation so that it looks good on faces. I'm unsatisfied with vanilla lighting because it gives weird, splotchy shadowing effects that make my character look demonic:

I went through a bunch of ENBs trying to find balance between lighting and performance. Sharpshooter's looked great but killed my framerate. Many others looked not-so-great, and still killed my framrate. I finally settled on RealVision, which looked really nice other than too-blue water. When I disabled DOF, I got ~27-32 FPS (I generally get 52-60 with no ENB) and character faces looked much better:

Unfortunately, my computer doesn't seem to like ENBs very much. With RealVision I got freezes during combat (no BSOD, just a complete freeze which I had to exit via ctrl+alt+delete). Other ENBs seem to give problems as well; I got random CTDs trying the God Rays Only ENB (which didn't even fix the lighting problem ).

Are there any mods that can fix face shadowing to make it look more like the latter two pictures and less like the former? Alternatively, are there any really lightweight ENBs I could try to sort it out?

Thanks!
