Intro horse thief dies during cart ride? : V

I'm playing with some settings and I've noticed that (not that its not hard to notice) but in the opening cart ride at a random point the horse thief will die. Even stranger is I found that I am able to zoom out from the cart and see my character + the remaining two, the really strange part is the horse thief is caught under the front axle of the cart and is being dragged down the road.
