Just curious what makes a nord a nord and an imperial an imperial. They both look exactly alike to me.

According to those who support Ulfric: Nords are those who are willing to fight for what they want. and Imperials are weaklings who bow to elves.

Although Imperials do have some Nord heritage along with Bretons they don't go to Sovngarde after death as evident when
Spoiler
Both Rikke and Tullius get killed in the Civil war if you decide to side with Stormcloaks and only Rikke who is a Nord is seen in Sovngarde. Tullius presumably goes to what is called the Dreemsleeve

As i remember i let Ulfric do the honors when it came to killing them.

In Skyrim, it's difficult to differentiate between Nords, Bretons, and Imperials.

Other than size (Nords are tall, Imperials are about the size of many other races) there's very little to clue you in on who is what race. The voice will clue you in... but it can only go so far, as there's more voice actors/voices being used both accross and within races for NPCs.

Nords are fighting for Talos because the Imperials bowed to the elves.

Yep

That is not always a good thing, or ends with everyone being happy and living free.

I can usually tell. Imperials will look very Mediterranean (black to mid-range hair, round faces), Nords are nordic, obviously, (light to dark hair, broad faces, tall, heavy-built) and Bretons are gaelic-germanic (as in French: round faces, lighter brown hair to dark, "pinched" faces to the center to lips, and short.)

The descriptions may be archaic and borderline stereotypical, but they carry a general apparentness. Don't expect it to work every time, though, as in reality.

I have to admit that playing Dragonborn and seeing very few nords takes some getting used to.

They seem to be slightly more dark complected than nords or imperials too. Another question, what area of Tamriel do bretons originate from??

Bretons have convex, full cheeks, Nords have elegantly narrow or squared faces, and Imperials are round and gaunt.
