Some Bosses (Malyn Varen) are bull crap!

Post » Fri Feb 15, 2013 8:09 am

I drank a 40% resist fire, 40% resist shock, cast berserker rage, and subsequently cast beast form, and I STILL can't tank 3 dremora fire wielding [censored] and Varen.

Some bosses in this game are impossible to beat without lowering the difficulty (I play on Expert).

The cover of the pillar on the left doesn't work. they can flank you from the left or right edge of the pilar. I took half my hp in dmg converting to beast form, even though I had fire resist AND berserker rage on. Without htose, I'd have been dead in those 3 seconds of converting to werewolf...

There is no counter to AoE Mages when you are a level 30 Warrior in heavy armor with 2h weapon skills. Getting 3 shot by any one of 4 enemies who have clear shots on my position always is not smart level design.

and, I just went 100% to 0% on a power attack wind up animation. WTF!!!!! I had 40% resist on fire, and half dmg from berserker rage, and no beast form this time.

I had such an easy time with him, I didn't even remember who you were referring to at first.
If I can't remember him he couldn't have been that hard.
Try drinking a resist magic potion in addition.
Also can the daedra be banished?
Also; last time I checked I could still drink unlimited health potions.

The burst is stupid, and there is no cover. I went 100% to 0% in 1 power attack animation. I have 250 health at level 30, with like 220 stamina. If I resist 40% magic, take half damage after that due to berserker rage, I should be taking 30% of the spell's damage, theoretically. Even so, I still just died in 1 second when I tried to power attack that dremora in the long lane. I didn't even strike the first attack, because when I showed my face, I ate fire from multiple sources,

Berserker Rage has no effect on spells, only physical damage.

The tooltip never specified htis. Wow, that's lame.

Also, they made the map so darned blurry! How the hell are they firing from beyond the fog if I can't see them. They only see me because they are AI.

All I did was hide behind the pillar and summon a Daedra of my own with the Sanguine Rose.

Invis is really unreliable. I don't even bother with it anymore because it seems like everything detects you through it. Which is odd, as invisibility isn't chameleon. If something is invisible, everything in the game shouldn't develop superhuman hearing.

I would suggest magic resist potions. It took me a few tries to get him, too.

Definitely a hard boss for some builds. On my last playthrough as a stealth archer it was faceroll easy, but as a pure warrior... ouch.

He's not that hard, but I will concede bad level design. Melee stealth characters (without powerful illusion?) basically get screwed over, hard!

It is possible to fight one enemy at a time/exploit the AI a little bit though.

Illusion and conjuration make it a lot easier. I didn't have either of those the first time. I can imagine it being a nightmare with a fighter type.

It's clear that the cover in this level isn't working as intended.

Shouts anyone?

Become ethereal, slow time, unrelenting force: any one of those three should help you with this situation.

I see you're a two-hander player. In my opinion shouts are most useful for two-handers of all the types of characters in the game.

Is there a reason you aren't using the Atronach Stone? 50% spell absorption might be useful.

He gave me a rough time the first time that I encountered him with my battlemage. So when I recently went in with my pure mage, I thought he was going to be nearly impossible. But to my surprise, I was able to wipe him out with relative ease. Strange...

I had fairly easy time defeating them but I was sneaking and sniping with a bow from behind the pillar. If your warrior has any bow skill you might try that.

For a warrior type, spell absorption helps too, like the Atronach stone or Spellbreaker shield.
