As the title says i have run into a nasty bug. Long post, so please bear with me.
In preperation for the long awaited DLC, i deleted almost all my old characters, uninstalled Skyrim, rebuilt the PS3 database then reinstalled Skyrim and waited till the game had fully installed by leaving it on the tile screen until the HDD indicator light had stopped flashing.
I then quit the game, restarted the console and downloaded the new patch (1.8 or 2.08 in the UK) and after it installed i restarted the console and created a new character.
As i began to play through the tutorial, just as i got to the torture chamber, i remembered about turning off the autosaves.
I tried to open the settings menu only to find it was greyed out, with the exception of the help option.
As soon as i moved the... highlight selector... thing... (cursor?), the help option then greyed out as well however i was still able to access the help menu, but unable to access any other option on that screen, including save.
I knew i had been able to turn off autosaves even before that point in the past but i decided to leave it a few minutes.
I played through to the end of Unbound but the problem failed to correct itself.
I restarted the game, made another character but again ran into the same problem.
I decided to reinstall the game and patch to try and correct the issue but the problem still persists.
Being unable to save the game renders it effectively unplayable.
Also, although i downloaded the patch, i have yet to download the Dragonborn DLC. This is due to my main internet being down (again) and as such i am forced to use mobile internet via my laptop (Internet Connection Sharing), which has a 200mb daily limit.
The patch, being 109mb was no problem but the DLC being 900mb+ is undoable just now.
Interestingly, the game will still pause for a moment to perform the forced autosave just before character creation and will say "autosaving" when accessing the character menu, due to the autosaves being on by default, however there are no saves generated by the game at all.
This is really frustrating and i am at a loss as to what to do to rectify the situation.
I have, like all PS3 players, waited for the day when the game would be fixed, or at least brought to a playable state, and for the DLC to be accessable to us as well.
For this now to have happened just as i thought i would be able to enjoy the game i bought 15 MONTHS AGO is just, well, its one of those moments that really just piss you off.
Does anyone have any idea what i can do about this? Apart from screaming in rage as i FUS RO DAH my Skyrim disc to tiny pieces...
