Anyway, being a huge Quake fan i've always held Id as a reliable company when it came to gaming experiences but after playing Rage i am afraid Id has gone the "dumbing down" road.
Now i think Rage has obviously positive features i just don't think they're positive enough to balance out with the negatives i've encountered.
First, no customization options in the settings, graphics/HUD, etc. The bopping(?, the way the character moves along the screen and such) is dreadful. While realistic it made me nauseous, one of the main reasons i couldn't play more than 1 hour.
And then the real dumbing down unfolds, first time playing this i game i choose the nightmare difficulty right away, hoping for a good challenge. Boy was i wrong. Easiest fps game i've ever played in my life. I really can't fathom how much easier can any of the other difficulties be. When i ran out of ammo the fists were quite a reliable weapon, and since i could take so much shots it was much quicker and easier to complete the missions running with my fists and punching every enemy i found my way.
Then i eventually died, around the third mission/quest and i was unpleasantly surprised to discover that i was immortal. I didn't die i just got knocked out and all i had to do to wake back up was press a key and it would also kill any enemies near a certain radius. So getting knocked out its actually a plus, not a downside but an upside, instead of fighting your way with firsts or taking time to aim and shoot, you can ran out of health and then press a key and voila. Also what's with that grenade icon telling you where and when someone throws you a grenade? unthinkable to me. If only i could turn this off at the options but no i can't, and to be honest this feature shouldn't be here in the first place, specially in a nightmare difficulty. It's quite pathetic.
Then for the first time i actually thought i've found my first challenge in this game. A closed door. Apparently i had to craft some sort of special item to open it, now i thought to myself "oh great now i'll have to find the components to craft it and porbably open up this craft menu" To my suprise pressing the key to open the door did all this, i had the components but didn't actually have to browse through them, the game automatically gave me all the answers i needed.
Now, one hour after i started playing im feeling sick with all the bopping and this game is far from being a challenge and i gave up.
What i want to know is if any of you share my thoughts on this, that this game was made with a console target audience in mind, hence the dumbing down. Did you actually enjoy the gameplay? What attracted you most in this game? graphics? action? setting? I actually thought those were great, expect action wise, i mean there's plenty of action, it's just mediocre.
Anyway i might give this game another try, if only there was a way to shut the bopping off and FOV, but other than that i think i would still find the same easy challenges this game sets. Other than that only thing left to enjoy is the story and graphics.
thanks
