Why Dragon Riding DOESN'T svck

Post » Mon Feb 18, 2013 6:30 pm

Two words. Civil war. The dragon riding feature made the invasion of Whiterun (Yes, invasion, you imperial milkdrinkers) SOOO much more fun. Here's why.

Normally to get a dragon to attack Whiterun, I'd have to
Spoiler
summon Durnehviir from Dawnguard
whose shouts kinda svck, or Odahviing. Problem with that is he pretty much makes sure that you can't use anymore shouts because of the cooldown time. Now that I have the dragon riding feature, that is no longer a problem.

Here's how it went down for me. I accepted the mission to take Whiterun, and was walking down the bridge to the carriage. My character Bodolf remembers that there's a revered dragon not too far from that location by a mountain. He walks and subdues the dragon and makes his way to Whiterun. When I get there, I land by my astounded brothers who are gathered to prepare the attack. (So much more epic listening to Galmar's speech with a dragon flying over our heads! Not to mention I looked badass getting off of it in full Nordic Carved gear.) Galmar gives the order, and we charge. As I approached the barrier, I look towards the sky and use my thu'um to call down my brother dov. I broke the barrier for my fellow troops, and take to the skies to begin my assault.

After a few minutes of roasting Imperial legion soldiers, I give my dragon the order to land. He lands me behind enemy lines, where I kill my way to the bridge release, and let the Stormcloaks pour in, slaying as they do. My dragon lands and begins to turn back to himself and attack. I subdue him again, and enter the city. When I get in, I activated my Dragon Aspect, and cyclone shouted and Bend Willed many legion men to their doom, while my dragon roasted men from above. (Can't do that with Odahviing unless you have the shout glitch! I got to shout and have a dragon attack.) The whole entire scene was just as awesome as it was when I used the shout glitch. Why? Because bend will allowed me to use a dragon plus all my badass shouts. Awesome sauce.

Off Topic: You know how awesome it was turning Balgruuf against his own steward and soldiers with Bend will? I love this frikkin shout!

So anyway, yea. Thats how I get my enjoyment out of this new feature, among other things. Don't you think some of you may have judged this feature too harshely without thinking of all the possibilities it offers?

Overkill indeed, but at least I didn't summon Karstaag. I'll save that for Solitude.

Um...I kinda....sorta....already do that, lol  .....Either him or Odahviing. I like to mix it up, lol. Now though, I have the location of all the forts, so I'll just use bend will and my pet revered dragon to assault them.
