I think they said guards are always 5 levels higher than the players at some point. They being Bethesda, and some point being said shortly before the game actually came out.

Assuming that wasn't changed, that's probably why.

I thought they leveled with the player? Regardless, level 70 or level 75 Guards are likely to be pretty badass.

I wish they were stronger, last time a dragon attacked winterhold (my current character was around lvl 20), it killed the 2 guards there. Darn dragon didn't want to come down, so I had to try to take him down with my poorly trained archery skill.

That could be too. Either way it sounds like they've definitely levelled to heights of badassery. I'd consider it a blessing since dragons can potentially om nom/bad breath half of a city.

Maybe all of those guards were really the dragonborns, and they just didn't know it yet.

The dragon's health was probably already low from a previous battle.

I wouldn't be upset if I were you. I'd be ecstatic that the guards finally did something useful.

Pretty sure that pitiful "rebellion" was put down ages ago

Funny way to refer to High King's royal guard.

Hold Guards level up with the PC and have a cap at Level 50. They are tough as nails at that status.

Royal guard? They were civilians dressed up as town guards, Ulfric gave them wooden shields and pitchforks!

They killed a dragon with those pitchforks! It's not about the blade, it's about the hand using it.

Even if the stormcloaks had some master swordsman it wouldn't matter, they are unorganized as a whole and that is why they were put down :toughninja:

i think guards cap out at 50, making them very strong
plus dragons are very bad when fighting multiple opponents that are that tough because of their super slow attack speed and turn speed, plus their recoil/stagger is a very long animation
this makes them cake for large groups
its nothing to freak out about
ive seen guards destroy at leaast 3 dragons like that
