Alright, so, I was heading into Riverwood to shop at the Riverwood Trader, when a Thief showed up. Some guards and other NPCs, including Lucan Valerius, went after him. I tried my new Bend Will shout on the theif, but I'm not sure I hit him. Always hard to tell. Anyway I killed the thief, but next thing I know the guards are fighting Lucan Valerius. I have a mod, Permanently Populated Skyrim, that makes him essential even after the Golden Claw is completed. But now he's running around Riverwood saying "We're routed! Fall back!" and fighting the guards only to get beaten up again and again. Funny thing though, he doesn't seem to count me as an enemy. When I get him alone, he acts like he's in combat and doesn't talk to me.

My last save is a ways back and I don't want to lose my progress. How might I fix this problem?
