Do you ride the hype train?

Post » Sun Feb 24, 2013 12:31 am

At one point in my life I had to have the latest and greatest game 24/7. I was spending on average $200 a month give or take. Just so I could be one of the first few people to experience the new game. Now days I ride the hype train every now and then and my last ride was Crysis 3. (Very disapointing to say the lease.) But more often then not I buy PC games when there are sales and get around playing them when I get to them. So how about it, do you ride the hype train? Do you have to buy the latest and greatest games?

I usually try to avoid it, but I do get caught up when I know something is going to be good (eg. Elder Scrolls, Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time). Then again, I can also be incredibly cynical at times (for example, with ESO), so it varies from situation to situation.

I hardly ever follow what's going on in the gaming world anymore, so I don't know enough to be hyped about upcoming games. And I'd rather wait for a sale than buy a game for full price on release.

I'm actually hyped for The Elder Scrolls: Online cause from what I've saw of it so far, it's going to be awesome.

So ye'h. I'm on the hype train.

Or be like me and only buy your few fave games at full price (The Elder Scrolls, Halo, etc) then buy other games years later... Seriously. Some games that I'm "maybe" on, I will wait until years later where it'll be like 10 dollars at gamestop.

Nope, I like things before they were hyped. The train I ride has thick frames and wears a scarf.

I try to avoid the hype train---I've gotten on it a couple of times and got burned.

The last game I was "hyped" for was Skyrim. I thought it was going to be everything it wasn't. From that point on, I was done. I will never get excited about a game because it will only make the experience of me playing it much, much worse.

Only Bethesda games for now. When Skyrim was announced i was in heaven that day. lol

But it's only every 5 years anyways. I bet Fallout 4 will be announced in 2015. But yeah it's only Bethesda games for me. All other games can go to the trash.

I get excited any time id releases a game, but that's just because I like them. They don't make the best games, but I enjoy them for what they are and I enjoy anolyzing them and watching them evolve their design over time.

Plus, id tech.

Not really.

I get excited about stuff, but I don't build it up to be something it isn't.

I have my tickets for Metro: Last Light, The Witcher 3, Star Citizen, Cyberpunk 2077, Elite: Dangerous, and the Oculus Rift right here on my desk.

And here I'm thinking I'm a rare rider!

I have a few rules though, never get hyped for a game that's from a developer with overt console company ties (except Bethesda), never get hyped for EA games, and never get hyped for games that are "console first" because they usually end up with bland, casual game design and play like trash (DA II, COD after MW2, Dead Space 3, Crysis 2 (soooooo sloooooooooooow)).
