Shimmermist Cave tips

Post » Tue Feb 26, 2013 6:05 am

Hey guys,

I wanted to get some tips before i go delve into Shimmermist Cave as i've heard it can be extremely hard. I've been delaying my first companion radiant quest because i didn't like the others therefore i tend to reload and ignore them until i return to whiterun again from killing random encounters for loot lol

Well this time Skjor wants me to retrieve a family heirloom from the cave and i think i'm up for the challenge and of course the loot but at my level(Lv.15 Nord Warrior) will this be too hard? I play on Master difficulty btw and in my previous playthrough i never got any quests leading me to the cave before i got bored.

my current character boasts full dwarven armor though will that be of any help?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, its been awhile, when you see what appears to be "tunnel openings" protruding out of walls, go in sneak mode. Falmers can jump out of those and surprise you, but in sneak there is a possibility(depending on your skill) they will not detect you(I think triggers are used for when you enter and makes them pop out).

That's the cave with about 5-6 trolls if I'm not mistaken. Flame enchantments or spells should provide you with enough offense, but if you're strictly melee be sure to kite around the trolls because while they're not necessarily hard to kill their damage output at lower levels can be brutal. A follower would provide good support too.

e: never mind; I thought of the wrong cave. If your sneak is high enough then you should be able to move quiety past the Falmer without attracting attention since they're blind and rely on their hearing. If that's not the case then I recommend bringing an essential follower, such as Mjoll, to provide support. Keep in mind that Falmer do poison damage more often than not and are likely to kill followers that aren't essential.

Disregard that first part -- I confused the cave with Darkshade.

Oh thats a relief then,

Btw aside from the caves apparent difficulty is there any drawback of delving this cave at this level?(aside from potentially getting constantly killed) and on the same note is there any advantage of waiting until i get higher in levels before entering the cave?

Sneak is always a good skill to pump some Perks into, but if you're a straight "charge-in-and-let-Shor-sort-it-out" type of Warrior, then I'd see about enchanting the hell out of your blade if possible. Having a strong "Fire" or "Absorb Health" enchantment on your weapon of choice will do wonders in said caves, and if you can get both onto one weapon, then you're doubly better off.
