Recently I played at a club with a group called the Main Street Gypsies. They're a local band. Anyways I had performed with them before, and the drummer, who is the only member I know personally, invited me to play again. So I'm on stage before show time setting up my stuff and I see 2 other members talking and looking over at me. Later on that night I had kind of a strange conversation with another band member that seemed to hint that he didn't even know why I showed up. It occurred to me later that no doubt the drummer had invited me without the approval of the rest of his band. Everyone other than the drummer, who's a real nice guy and is the one that invited me in the first place, seemed pretty unwelcoming. In fact, when the front man was introducing everyone on stage and each one of them did a solo, he skipped me. He did this twice. Now i know I'm not actually in the band but come on, that was pretty blatant. It's not that I'm not a bad player either. I've played the drums for 11 years (I was playing auxiliary percussion: bongos, cowbells, a tom etc.)
So, either way, I was bored on stage most of the time and theres no need for a second drummer in that band even if it is auxiliary percussion. I won't be playing with them again.
At the time it wasn't awkward, but looking back on it it sure is haha. So what are your awkward stories?
