Getting Dawnguard today, some questions.

Post » Wed Feb 27, 2013 5:47 am

I'm getting Dawnguard on PSN tonight and I have a few questions for those who already bought it. I don't care if you give away spoilers, I already read every mission in the guidebook.

1. How frequent are the vampire attacks on cities/towns/my house?
2. Are the vampires strong enemies? Can they do a lot of damage if attacking in cities like Whiterun etc?
3. Will the attacks ever stop?
4. Any game breaking glitches I could encounter?
5. Is it worth $9.99? By that I mean content
6. Any tips?

As you can tell I'm more focused on the attacks, things like that are annoying to me. I like my towns to remain alive and can't afford to lose anyone, especially merchants. Thanks for your time! :D

1. Frequent enough to be annoying. Keep your eyes peeled and you should see them coming before they get to kill anyone.
Remember you can always load your last Auto-Save if things go bad.

2. Depends on your level. For the most part, they can do some serious damage because they often attack in groups of three.

3. After you complete the Dawnguard MQ.
(possibly earlier... there seems to be different ideas about this)

4. Not any that I ever experienced.
But merchants can get killed, and that is annoying. (see #1)

5. Yes. There's a lot of great content. Even at full price I felt like it was money well spent.
There is a large sidequest that has nothing to do with Vampires, and it's really enjoyable just on its own.
Also some new enemies in the vanilla dungeons. (new Falmer armor, new charus bugs, etc)

6. The MQ starts as you being against the Vampires... but you will soon be able to pick a side.
The two different ways to play the MQ are very similar... that's my only complaint about the DLC.

1. Depends on your preferred mode of travel, to cut down on them avoiding fast travel helps, also avoiding towns/cities and hitting the DG main quest hard to finish it out.
2.They are leveled to your character, the higher level you are the stronger they are. If you're high level then they CAN overwhelm a town's defenders.
3,. After you finish the DG MQ.
4. A High profile follower is known to be bugged HOWEVER I'm on 360 and have had few problems so far, just keep your eye on her as you would any other follower and you should be all right.
5. More than worth it IMO. You get an awesome quest, numerous radiant quests, weapons unavailable in the vanilla game, AWESOME locations/dungeons.
6. If you don't like the idea of random attacks by Vamps or DG (Depending on your preferred play style) hit the Dawnguard questline and finish it out quickly, it's so much fun it will be worth it. Stay away from towns/villages unless necessary and keep your head on a swivel, some of those places are absolute mazes and dark so keep plenty of torches on hand.

Thanks for your answers! And I'm level 81 so they will probably be some tough guys. I'm going to watch every part of the world now, especially near my house. Merchants dying is a huge pain. I already lost the blacksmith in Riverwood, but I never visited him so it didnt matter. Suddenly level grinding for Legendary dragons doesn't seem too smart.

1. Depends on your character and what rate of random events you have.

2. Depends on what level your character is.

3. On towns they should stop if you finish the Dawnguard questline and no longer use your VL form near any towns, and no playing around with blocking out the sun. You could always get vampire attacks in the wild.

4. Do not ever ask Serana to wait without saving first, always make sure your game is updated with the latest patch before installing DLC.

5. It was worth double that amount, so I would think it more than worth $10

6. If you like fighting, visit towns, if you do not want to be fighting off town attacks, do not visit towns, just go do the Dawnguard questline. Vampires will get things slightly easier with town attacks.

I stopped grinding levels when I took up the quest at level 62 and am glad I did. Going back to my preferred style of play makes it a lot more comfortable to play since fighting with unperked armor/weapons would have gotten me quickly killed.
