Your Thoughts on 6 Ability Slots?

So from what I have read, it sounds like combat will work a lot like GW2..... Instead of being able to use all of your learned skills at the same time, you need to instead choose 6 to work with (2 of course being related to your weapon).

I personally found GW2 combat to be kind of boring. I guess I am just used to seeing like 30 abilities to use at once.


How does everyone feel about the 6 slot system they are going with in ESO?

Yeah you are only able to have 6 of your skills actic at a time, i think it will be as in the secret world.

I also like to have all of my abilities, but not really cahngeable right know.

other games have used systems like this before and even though i think its to be more console friendly i still am finme with it. i personally think it is good to have to plan a build instead of being able to use any ability at any time. you have to pick and choose what you do so you dont gimp yourself too much in 1 area. overall i like it but really hope you cannot change skills on the fly. i much rather them require a visit to town to be swapped out otherwise people will just switch them each fight and if thats the case then whats the point in the limit anyway?

I am very conflicted about the 6 abilities with no Cooldown.

I really like the use of Cooldowns because it makes you strategize and think when and what ability to use.
Having only 6 active abilities and no Cooldown seems very simplistic and sounds like it will be very repetative.

For example. I expect from the 6 abilities to have 1 AoE attack, 1 single target attack and 1 DoT attack. The rest would be slows/stuns/escapes/barriers etc.
There is really not to many things you can do without Cooldowns. It is just an attack spam.

I would be REALLY suprized if they managed to build an interesting and long-lasting combat system based on 6 spamable abilities.
I just cant envision it working right. I hope I am wrong.

It's scaring me. EQ had 8 spells (+ abilities) and that amount seems ancient now.

I also like the quasi-turned strategy that comes with cooldowns.

That being said, this game needs to be different for it to make a mark. Hopefully, it will be a good kind of different.

As long as we aren't locked to those six skills because of the weapon type, I'll be ok with six. GW2 svcked IMHO because if you wanted to use only one weapon type, for one reason or another, you were stuck with the skills that came along with it. Boring. I'm hoping that we'll get mass skills that we can change out of combat at will. Also, I'd like to see some system like gems or runes that will modify the skills behavior or animation.

Wait, so if you want to use a magic spell you have to use an ability? ...or do you switch to the spell and use the mouse buttons to cast it?

not entirely sure but I think destruction and healing types will be mouse buttons others will be abilities

I think you'll have two actions on your mouse and the 6 spells, plus your elite/special skill/spell, on your keyboard that you cast with numbers 1 - 7. Kinda like Tera.
