Okay, i don't normally bother with followers as they normally end up dead very quickly. However my current playthrough is the first time where i have actually bothered to keep a follower with me and equip them with better weapons etc.

Only every time i give my Orc buddy a crossbow, she gets a little confused.

It was amusing at first, now it's annoying, any solutions? is this a known bug or just me experiencing it? I've tried the basics, reloading,restarting,removing and re-adding the crossbow etc. Nothing fixes it.

Normal Steel and Enhanced Steel Crossbows the followers can use without any problems (Derkeethus uses a Crossbow on my account)

It just seems that Dwarven and Enhanced Dwarven Crossbows confuse your Followers o.o

Try a different follower.

Also, does it work? Or does she just stand their pointing her ax at things to no effect?

That is strange :S Hopefully a bug Bethesda fixes one day. Glad to hear they can at least use the other Crossbows though.


I don't want a different follower until this one dies.

She just stands there pointing her axe at the enemy, no bolts are fired and no damage is done. (The damage to the Forsworn was by me)

I know Derkeethus and hostile generic Dawnguard can use crossbows (though since I'm a vampire, I can only get steel bolts and normal crossbows). And I shoved the crossbow he gave me into Isran's pockets, and that came back to bite me (pun unintended) in the tail during "Destroying the Dawnguard", so their use isn't dependent on the person having a ranged combat style.

So, test it first with a normal steel crossbow and bolts, and if in doubt, use an archer follower.

Oh, and a note for anyone who wants to have their followers use Crossbows,

Unlike Followers with Bow's and Arrows, the Follower's Bolts actually do run out eventually, whereas a Follower's Arrows will be unlimited no matter how much they have.

amazing you got even that far mine dont even try to use there new weapon...could be because my follows are zombies

Did a quick test and gave her a normal enhanced crossbow. Seems she at least knows how this one works.
