Why is the eastern front (WW2) forgotten?

Post » Sat Mar 09, 2013 10:39 am

I was in history class today, and are teacher asked which large scale campaign do you think was the most Vital....Most ever said the Pacific front or the European (Landing in normandy ECT). I was THE ONLY ONE who said the eastern Front. And most of class didn't even KNOW what the eastern front was. 26 MILLION Russians gave there lives in this campaign and was arguable the thing THAT WON the war for the allies. Why does the landing in Normandy get so much more attention, even though this was FAR more important?

Well some kids in class did say once that "Russians" are monsters because they were "communist dogs" but that shouldn't matter, since they won the war and sacrificed so much for the allies.

Because after WW2, sovjet was seen as the "bad guys", and cut off from the west. Notice how almost no mass media or advertisemant from russia is seen in the west.

They say there are monsters because Stalin killed more than Hitler. ( Civilians.)

Also the Iron Kurtain.

Stalin killed more Russians than the Nazis did, apart from that it probably has to do with demographic. I'm sure in Russian schools they think it was more important than the western front. Ninja'd.

Honestly, as a Russian, I would say you are better off without it :D
And you are right it is all because of anti-commie propaganda. I don't support communism, but I don't support any sort of propaganda, even against it.

Yes the infamous order 227.

Regardless Stalin and his red army helped win the war for the allies, and I think we should at least put some stuff on the eastern front in our education.
