Why are RP'ers so worried about Legendary Skills?

Post » Fri Mar 15, 2013 7:12 am

Is Bethesda forcing you to use them? I mean, really. It's like someone in Japan complaining about how a local fast food shop in a small town in London is always offering to make their meal larger for only a few extra pence. It doesn't affect you in any way, so stop crying about it. They're not going to force you to do it and you probably won't even think about it.

People will always find something to complain about, its in their very nature.

Because they don't have the imagination to come up with a "realistic" reason for using it. Because it's just there and not accessed through any sort of quest or other integration in the game world.

Personally... magic. One of the 4 universal constants, as made up by me.

(For those wondering, they are Magic, Wormholes, Science, and Alien Technology)

Even if it's optional, they'll find a reason to complain, because they're so offended that it even exists, it doesn't matter if it's optional or not.
Like this rock here, in the road. I hate that rock. I don't have to walk over that rock, but still I hate that rock and I don't want it there.

Because dragons, elves, and gods are realistic.
Here's a good reason
*Dragons have lust for power and knowledge
*Dragonborn has the soul of a dragon
*Dragonborn lusts for power and knowledge
*Dragonborn finds way to gain knowledge and power
*Dragonborn gets said knowledge and power

I mean, really. Is that not obvious to them?

That's the most perfect way to describe that.
Here is a cookie.
*Hands person the cookie*

Which gives me another idea. It's like being offered a cookie and getting offended because you don't like that kind of cookie even though you were never going to take it in the first place.

By "realistic" I mean fitting within the game world. Obviously dragons and elves are not realistic in reality.

And I agree, it is easy to come up with something, but I guess the more hard core RPers want to have some long elaborite story as to why they do anything, since "just because" isn't good enough for anything.

"My overly sixualized character steps into the tavern, all the while thinking about that one tragic encounter many years ago..."... because walking into a tavern just for the sake of going into the tavern is just too dull.

I know. But they really can't find a better reason to cry about it?

Why are you complaining about what other people are complaining about?

Who cares how anyone else does play (or does not play) in a one player game?

There is no conversation to be had here, except that different people play the game differently.

If the voice of the community is dominated by those who disapprove of everything Bethesda does, then they will change it as such because as far as they know that is what the players want. So it is rather important to be vocal about approving of a feature they add.

I as an rper am looking forward to this.

I hear people say "Boo hoo, I don't want to deal with suspension of disbelief. Why would my guy lose his memory?"

I counter with why would your guy as a warrior practice conjuration? What's worse? Having to use that noodle in your head to think of a good reason to use legendary skills, or having a guard tell you to conjure him up a warm bed when you're a warrior? For me the answer is simple.

This thread was started only to complain about other threads on the forum... no discussion of gameplay was ever mentioned by the OP.

Exactly. It's a complaint thread about complainers. Something that is frowned upon in the forum to start with.

But it involved asking about RP and why RPers don't like the feature, which is a question whos answer does involve gameplay, as that is the reason.

There's plenty of ways to RP legendary skills in Skyrim for me. I'll elaborate later.

Complaining about complaining doesn't really do much. If someone thinks a thread is a problem, use the report button and let the mods sort it out. It takes much less effort to ignore a thread than it does to post another thread complaining about it.
