How to tell if VG imports are region locked?

Simple question really and the reason I'm asking is because as you guys know I bought a japanese imported video game on my 360 and it plays great, so I found out there's a prequel for it seen here----http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mushihime-sama-HD-Xbox-360-Japan-Japanese-Import-NEW-/290717500696?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b01d0518
The sellers say it's region locked but I looked at a close up of the package and it has the same NTSC[J] code like the one I have. My gut says this isn't region locked cause it's from the same people who made the second game and that's region free so it would make since to make the prequel also reigon free for oversea fans (the few there are). So should I buy it and try it or should I just take their word (I mind you I have seen other sellers saying the second game won't play on American 360's and it does work---perfectly)?

Here's my current video----http://youtu.be/qSuydYKvjzY

If you have a 360 go to Amazon and buy the sequel there, as long as it's the Platnum Series (which is what they basicly sell) it WILL play on US 360's...just remember this game will slap you around on higher difficulty levels and once you buy the Black Label DLC----the difficulty becomes legendary specially the requirements to get to the True Last Boss in that game.
Oh and reguargless what others say Ultra mode is eaiser then BL's God Mode. I can get to the final boss in Ultra mode with the three lives I have, but I can't even get passed the first boss let alone the first stage without dying and in God mode you die once and you'll never see the TLB...like I said Black Label's God Mode is legendary .

NTSC is just a television standard. Japan adopted The US standard NTSC (slightly modified) instead of the European Standard PAL. It isn't the same as region coding.

That's just the first barrier. Region locking is a different matter. Every 360 has a region code string set (so do all DVD players in general and BD players too). This region code cannot be changed*. Discs can, optionally, be encoded with a region code as well. If the DVD has a region code, then it will only work with devices sharing that region code or with devices with the region-0 region code (international/regionless). 95% of games are region coded. It's entirely possible that the sequel was regionless but the prequel is region-coded.

*Not fully accurate, the region code on a general DVD player can be changed 5 times IIRC, before it locks to a code.
