First-Person , a lesson never learned.

Post » Tue Mar 19, 2013 3:17 am

Hello Everybody !
There are many things that are wrong with Skyrim ( Oblivion and Morrowind too ) 's First-Person view.
Let me list these things.

1. You cannot see your body , you're just a flying camera with hands.
There are mods for that , but they will never reach playable state in my opinion.
For an immersive game this is a huge disappointment.

2. Forced switching to Third-Person mode.
Horse riding , Mounted combat , Vampire-Lord , Were-Wolf.
All these force you into Third-Person mode , very bad.

3. Heights in First-Person mode.
Your view from the First-Person perspective is locked at the neck ( Right ? )
So no matter what race you play , you will not see any height differences in First-Person mode.

I'll add others as I'll recall them.

What do you think ?

Well I mostly play in third person, but it would be nice to be able to see my feet and legs in first person at least. I can look all the way at the ground but can't see my feet or legs?

Hello Everybody !
Since Morrowind , the First-Person view was just a pair of hands and a camera.
TES games are supposed to be immersive , is it THAT hard to make a proper First-Person mode ?

What do you thing ?
i like it the way it is. it would be great if it was made with the full body but it is not needed.
there is probably a mod for it.

What do you thing? Or what do you think? "What do you thing?" does not make any sense.

I'm not sure what you're complaining about. Although I do not use Skyrim's 1st person, I kinda like the arms with the veins showing. Why is Skyrim's not a "proper first person?"

I don't think its necessary to be able to look down and see my feet in game, but to each their own I guess.

Agree 100%. It always bugs me seeing people complacent with the abysmal standard for first person games, or worse, not even realizing what's wrong with it; that shows how bad the industry is right now at making a true first-person persepctive.

Hopefully once the Oculus Rift takes off it'll put more stress developers to make better first person perspectives. Not being able to see your body in first-person games really is a relic of a time when the technology didn't allow for it that only remains because very few developers have tried to correct it.

I suppose if I played mostly on 1st person I would have the same complaints, but since I use mainly the 3rd person view for everything (except picking certain items, and aiming with the bow) I'm fine as it is.

Just look at Chivalry:Medieval Warfare , Now THAT'S a proper First-Person mode.
You actually feel like you're a person with a sword in your hand.

( I'm not even talking about the combat system , that's a completely different story. )
