Optional Single-Player-mode like in Richard Garriotts Shroud

After reading about Richard "Lord British" Garriotts new RPG Shroud of the Avatar, it occured to me that he had the evolution of online gaming at hand. Selective-Multiplayer in which you can choose the way you want to play. Either offline and alone or online and solo or with just a few friends online or together with friends and strangers.

This is the way I wanted to play Onlinegames for a very long time. No people with dumb names hopping around in front of me ruining the atmosphere, no crammed dungeons or cities... I can decide whom I play with. And if I don't want to play with anyone, then I play solo. Even offline when I want to play with no internet connection at hand. This would be a huge bonus for Onlinegames, adding people as customers who don't want to or cannot play online.

As TESO wants to combine solo-player fun with onlinegaming by having quests that can be played solo why not have a similar selective-multiplayer-system? Why not give me the option to play solo if I want to? If I want to add a few friends or all of the players so be it. But it would be great if I could choose how I want to play the game. Therefore Selective-Multiplayer seems to be the next step in onlinegaming.

Megaserver should easily allow solo-playing, not thats confirmed, but you can play with your friends exclusively, if thats what you want.

The difference is that I don't want to see anyone else or just the few friends I want to play with. Or maybe at one time I want to see strangers.
The option should be there to just have those people in the world I want to play with or nobody except for me if I want to play solo.

Thats what I mean... they can use phasing for that. Its just if they allow it or no. I think they should do it. People like to play solo/friends-only.

Btw, if Shroud of the Avatar isnt scam nothing is. Lord British needs money for cheap hokers.
