Whenever I google this I find an amazing number of people searching for the same thing, so I'm sure there's a market for it. And in the case of a market existing, someone will [censored] that market for all it's worth. However, I've yet to find a helpful comment on one of these forums.
cutting to the chase: I'm looking for a laptop that will serve primarily as a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse for my desktop with a reasonable range. This would work wonders for my life and things would be infinitely easier. I don't want to settle for a laptop with something along the lines of TeamViewer, please don't tell me to do so, it really doesn't suit my needs. For example, my system would:
- Load Significantly Faster as long as the desktop is on
- Will be easy to block in the necessity
- Will have a faster response time between the laptop and desktop
- Will have significantly less overheating issues
- Will be easier to switch between systems
- Will be able to run demanding software without dieing or costing a bomb
- Will be able to link perfectly with the whole system I have in mind
Just please don't
I'm hoping that my googling skills are merely lacking and someone out there can point me towards a system that would be able to do so.
However, in the likely situation that it just doesn't exist, I'm willing to take some time to look into the issue and get my hands dirty. I have a decent amount of experience with the interior of a desktop (built a few in my time), however, not so much with a laptop. I would be willing to invest time into figuring out how I could possibly do this myself, given somewhere to start.
I would need a two way lead with a hdmi and a usb port for the monitor/keyboard, both of which are attached to a wireless transmitter. The laptop should have a built in reciever. (to be fancy it would be good to have some working usb ports on the laptop too)
I know these technologies all exist seperately (think of your wireless mice and keyboards and the occasional wireless hdmi transmitter you'll see), but I've yet to find them combined.
This doesn't seem like it would be too difficult or complicated. Perhaps if I were building an entire laptop system, but just a monitor/keyboard/touchpad peripheral doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal. Though I could be wrong.
I would like to note that this isn't just a little thing that I would likely never use once created, I'm hoping to be able to create something that I'll be able to use/replicate for a good 50 years or so until the bucket is kicked.
Again, please no "Just use TeamViewer" comments, this is a project I'm willing to take on.
The closest thing to Radio Shack that I can access (will likely be referenced), is http://www.maplin.co.uk/, sorry!
