one thing i have a hard time seeing

Post » Sun Mar 24, 2013 5:28 am

first thing are a couple questions, is ESO going to have an economy? and will different factional provinces have different resources to trade?.

i ask this because economy, trade, and war are the basis of politics. politics and trade in a game adds a level of gameplay that goes beyond mere slugfest's over territory.it bring life to a game.

ive never played EVE Online, but i know its a space trading game with economy, trade, factions, and war. i got to see a video of what is possible with this combination.there was an incident where the captain of a valuable expensive warship accidentally warped into an enemy sector and was attacked. reinforcements were called, alliances invoked, and the incident turned into a battle that escalated into a 9 hour long,2800+player slugfest that became the most expensive battle ever fought in the game.

will ESO have this possibility? will there be resource to fight over? politics? or is it just going to be an endless slugfest for the capitol of Cyrodiil?

They haven't confirmed anything except to say that trade/economy will be important in the game. Right now they've only confirmed direct trading between players. They've said there may be opportunities for crafters to act as vendors or merchants. We'll have to see what type of auction house or trading post system they come up with. What I've read so far with crafting and trading it sounds very sandboxy. I like it.

It doesn't sound very sandboxy at all, if it was then everything/item in the game would be player made. A blacksmith could only make a blade and he would need to find a carpenter to make the handle, players needing other players to craft items. There would be no A/H just player stalls set up and your character would stand there trading even if you were logged off, that's sandboxy not the system ZeniMax describes.

The crafting sound cool but in no way does it sound sandboxy imo.

Joking apart about real money AH. Remember that a complex economy in a game will bring about a threshold. And the higher the treshold is the more players will complain. I sort of like complexity. To some extent anyway.

its hard for me because ive never played an online rpg. i have played an online mmo wargame called World War II Online. you cant have a war without attrition. you cant have attrition without limited resource.

if we are going to have war, we must have attrition. otherwise its just an endless grind that can only be swayed by player population.

if we are going to have attrition,we must have resource that has to be gathered so we can wage war.

if we are going to have resource, then we must economy, trade, and politics between factions.
