Missing Quest items since installing Dawnguard

Post » Sun Mar 24, 2013 11:13 pm

I played Skyrim a LOT since it came out. Like every other PS3 user, I had to wait to get the expansions. After installing the first two I played again and did not have this problem. After installing Dawnguard, my gave is unplayable. I have several quest lines in progress that I cannot finish. Let me give an example of what happens. Doing the dawnguard quests I am doing Prophet where you find a moth priest. Well I found him in the holdout, killed all the dawnguard around, but cannot deactive the barrier. Why? Because this item you take from the guy, the focus, is not in his inventory. I see the arrow over his head, I search his inventory, but it just is not there. Another example was doing Molag Bol's quest. When he gives you the mace, it does not show up in my inventory anywhere. In this instance the next time I started the ps3 and loaded my game it showed up, but this does not work when its another characters inventory. I have several quest lines that I cannot finish now due to a note that isnt on someone it is supposed to be, or a note that vanishes when I pick it up, or missing items that are needed. I cant even do thieves guild exra jobs because the, for example, whatever chest/strongbox I go to to steal something, it bugs and the item is hidden. Anyone know what to do? My game is unplayable.

Just wanted to add that both dlc storylines are bugged. Dragonborn cant be played either, as I cant read the cultist's orders because they vanished when I looted them from the body, never to return.

Have this problems occured right after you started Dragonborn and Dawnguard or have you such problems with the main quest (SKYRIM) as well ???

As far i know PC users have such bugs as well...for example: I have read this (from a pc user):

"I just installed the Dawnguard DLC (I play on PC) and I've already noticed a major bug. For whatever reason all of the quest items I have in my inventory are now invisible, when I say invisible I don't mean gone, they are still there, they just dont show up (I know this because I have the weight from them). I noticed this bug while I was doing the dark brotherhood quest breaching security. I killed Gaius Maro and went to plant the incriminating letter on his body but I could not find it anywhere in my inventory. I tried using the console to get another one but even though it said "incriminating letter added" the item still didnt appear in my inventory. Then I used a command to put the letter in Gaius Maro's inventory and it was visible there (the objective didn't complete though). I tried taking the letter from his body but even then it didn't show up in my inventory. However, it was definitly there as my weight increased. Then I looked through my inventory for other quest items and realised all of them were'nt there."

You can btw look at the Dragonborn and Dawnguard PS3 section for more infos...

Dragonborn: http://www.gamesas.com/forum/239-playstation-3-hardware-software-support/
Dawnguard: http://www.gamesas.com/forum/241-playstation-3-hardware-software-support/

You can re-download the DLC's as well and see if that helps you out.

Nope, none of this happened for me, on either console. But, when I added Dragonborn to my Xbox last year, my Misc quests got shorter. Took me awhile to figure out those 2 quests to join either Stormcloaks or Imperials were gone. My Xbox game is very stripped down. I didn't do most of the guilds nor none of the civil war and none of the Oblivion Walker. I did the main quest and all DLC though.

On my PS3, however, I did everything so I could plat. Not missing any inventory items or any quests, of which few remain anyway.

So your main quest line is good, and you encountered problems after you installed the DLC's. !!!!

At first, why you won't delete your additional game data folder and install the patch 2.08 and then the DLC's again, and see what happens ???

1.Go to the Game Data folder in the XMB menu (dont run Skyrim while you do this!) Find the files "Skyrim Data" and "Skyrim - Update" (or something like that) and delete them

2.Turn on your ps3 WITHOUT internet connection and let the game install a vanilla version first.

3.Once thats done, turn off ur ps3 and turn it back on WITH internet connection enabled, start skyrim and let it patch the game..

4.Reinstall any dlc's you had

thats it

Try starting a new character, see if the issues persist

What character level are you?

Normally, should not have had a problem with the DLC's. I have also installed the 3 dlc's, but i have not touched any of them except Hearthfire.

So, try to format your hdd and install all from the beginning if possible...!!!!

Then do step 2, 3 and 4 as "Litter1" says.
