That would contradict all the statments that I heard while waiting in line to play the game (While that may not be the official word as most are PR/Marketing people, what was made clear is that TESO is in fact an Elder Scrolls game first before its an MMO. From the videos they were showing and my own hands-on time, I can agree with the statement that is is very much an ESG first.
People need to realize that TESO is going to be an MMO but that does not mean the integrity of the game is in question. TOR is the perfect example of how a developer set out to make a great single-player game that happened to have many MMO elements added in. The class story in TOR is hands down the best of any MMO I have ever played, it was very immersive and each class having their own unique class stories was something that was huge for the game. While TESO will not have that kind of detail per-class what you do get is the lore, settings, some game mechanics, and feel of an Elder Scrolls game. What TOR lacked was solid PvP (Warzones aka battle grounds and they were very repetitive and got boring) and PvE content that was easy to blow through for our guild at least.
One person with one video cannot make such sweeping statements, though I will not discredit his opinion Some Elder Scrolls fans are scared that TESO will be an MMO first and just have some other elements sprinkled in to appease those fans. That is the complete opposite of from everything I have heard, as I have said. What people need to come to terms with though is that TESO is an MMO, that means it will have to have certain features and some things will need to get changed or modified to fit the genre of an MMO. What it does not mean is that it will be a "WoW clone" or that it is doomed to fail, or that it is Elder Scrolls with friends and all online (Though that is somewhat true on a very broad level as well).
