Does anyone else think they should be a healing focus theme

Does anyone else think they should be a healing focus theme class instead of tying Templar into tank/healer?

I remember the early rumors that there will be 5 classes with one of them being a warden which is more heal based class.

I'd originally expected to be playing a warden since I'm a bit into healing, but I like the Templars light magic aesthetic so I'm ok with them being smushed together.

My main concern is classes not being balance/"OP". The way I am thinking is that you can go fairly high into healing and into tanking then picking up maybe some defensive buffs ten maybe switch to some CC and/or some DPS, tanks wont need a healer and can just outlast/disrupt.

I'm hoping to get out of the 'holy trinity' rut, and a game that *has* it but doesn't (necessarily) need it is a good start. So no, I don't really care if a 'dedicated healer class' is necessary let alone available.

Having played other MMOs with similarly flexible skill systems, equipment usually prevents that. While we'll be able to equip two weapons and switch between them, presumably also switching passives, our armour will stay the same.

All they need to do is something like make spells cost more wearing medium and much more wearing heavy armour compared to light. Or the same might be achieved through enchantments - limited number of enchant slots across all your equipment so you might be able to seriously boost your AC or your healing but not both.

Yeah I thought the Warden would be in too. I hope a cloth wearing healer is viable and doesn't get smashed by everything.

I have been always a hybrid type of player. When you add class flexibility there will be groups of players that would still make a "holy trinity" class maybe cause that is what they like or that is what works best for them. As I understand and look at the classes from what information we have they kinda of combine, overlap and spread the "holy trinity" out

Yes it is. on http://shadowedmare.com/the-elder-scrolls-online-at-pax-overview-day-two/, says templar though will have the best heal skills, not sure how accurate it is.

AIUI, armour works by boosting rather than limiting. That is, rather than medium & heavy making spells cost more, light armour improves spellcasting. Medium is best for stamina, heavy is best for face-tanking. (Not sure on details, I've heard a couple things but lost track of what was 'confirmed' vs what was extrapolated.)

Depends on what you mean. Going by some recent quotes you might be able to make a sorc with a heal spec (restoration staff skill line is available to everyone) but they might not ever be able to be as good as a templar with a heal spec.

Personally I think that is the wrong way to do it. Seems like to trying to have it both ways. "Anyone can fulfil any role.... but not equally well."

I'm guessing that the Nightblade will also have a few heals in one of his skill trees, however the Templer still will be the main healer class.

Got the impression Sorceror is the guy with magicka and therefore can heal much. But if you are not having any heal abilities then Templar is the way to go if you want to heal?

Whole this thread presumes
tying Templar into tank/healer

which is incorrect unless (you can quote some source)

While Templar might have some extra heals along his class skill lines, the staff skill line will truly be source of your healing abilities and should be enough to fillup the hotbar. There might be another in Racial skill lines or Mage Guild skill line, which havent been revealed to us yet

I believe Matt Fior if not one of the devs said in one of the interviews said that players can put points into different skill branches, also this was confirm by servile of the pre-pax east/ press play. In another post in this thread I used http://shadowedmare.com/the-elder-scrolls-online-at-pax-overview-day-two/ as my source for saying that Templar will have the best healing abilities.

I believe much of it comes from http://tamrielfoundry.com/player-classes/templar, also from people who have played the templar class last year.
