What is the name of their engine for this game?

Just like to know, where the engine comes from, whether it is a new or modification of another engine or something?

ZOS built it themselves just for ESO and as far as I know it doesn't have a name. ESO Engine perhaps or something.

Is there really so little information about it? Do you have any quotes from them?

I think we should just dub it the ZOS Engine until they think of a name for it and tell us.

Yep thats literally all we know. They used an Engine called the Hero Engine initially just to prototype, while they built their own Engine. Only other thing they said was a big reason for building their own engine was so it could handle roughly 200+ players on your screen during RvR battles.

Is there a confirmation for this or are you just guessing?

They use two different engines.

1. they use the swtor engine to test stuff
2. they use their own engine to build the final version.

ZOS was quoted (cant find it) saying that they used the Hero Engine to get started and putting things into play and slowly developed their own engine. So it is probably based off the Hero Engine but adapted for what ZOS wants in the end. Good Graphics, but no super computer needed to play, and allow 200+ people on screen at same time without 3fps lag.

I recall they said it was an engine made from scratch if I remember correctly. I'd just call it the TESO engine tbh.

"We started ZeniMax Online from scratch, with no employees and no technology. We had to build everything ourselves. It takes a long time to write game engines, especially MMO engines, which are inherently more complicated than typical single-player ones. So, we decided to license the HeroEngine to give us a headstart. It was a useful tool for us to use to prototype areas and game design concepts, and it provided us the ability to get art into the game that was visible, so we could work on the game’s art style. Our plan is for ESO to be a world class MMO, with the most advanced social features found in any MMO to date – so while we were prototyping the game on HeroEngine, we were simultaneously developing our own client, server, and messaging layer that were specifically designed with ESO in mind. Think of HeroEngine as a whiteboard for us – a great tool to get some ideas in the game and start looking at them while the production engine was in development"
