Damage Meter II

Post » Mon Apr 01, 2013 2:27 am

This is a continuation of the first Damage Meter thread: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1452823-damage-meters/, as it has reached its post limit. It's a holiday for many of us, so let's give the mods a break and stop posting in the other one.

I think damage meters should be in....So that you can see how fast I am killing you in the PvP dungeons while you trying to get "phat loots"

no dmg meters and no raids please.

ZOS, please do not destroy this game because of the incoming wow-crowd.

If you want this stuff, play WoW. Blizzard has got the people and the money to provide monthly new raid content.
Item oriented raid progress would kill ESO pretty quickly.

Does not matter really, damage meters will be there, supported or not by ZOS

You say "no raids please," I will say "no PvP please." Why should PvP'ers have all the fun? (not bashing)

I think using damage meters as a tool to experiment with different options to maximize one's damage output is good idea, but if its going to be used like it was in WoW (and it will) as a tool to determine whether or not you're good enough to join a group then I think it would be best to be left out of the game. I just think it would be absolutely TERRIBLE to level a character all the way to level 50 only to find out that nobody wants you in your group because the unique character you created doesn't put out enough heals or DPS according to the meters because you made a hybrid class.

I'm genuinely curious.

If there isn't accompanying combat text scroll, how?

They also don't account for pets, usually. Or even your buffs/debuffs. Placing a debuff on an opponent to make him take 20% more damage from Magicka could increase damage output by your allies that they wouldn't normally have, making the Damage Meter not truely correct.

Threat isn't the only viable tanking mechanic.

Eg. I can't remember if they implemented it or not but I remember the novel take on this that Champions Online said they were going to use was a debuff applied by tanks such that if the target attacks anyone but the tank, their damage is reduced.
That's functionally a different way to achieve the same goal of the tank, i.e. damage mitigation for their buddies.
Yeeeeeah, how does the mob decide who it is attacking though? If there arnt explicit aggro skills, its probably just going to be on account of who is hurting it more.

There's that delightful attitude we all associate with the damage meter crowd
Two miners come out of a mine, one has a clean face, the others face is dirty, the first one sees how dirty he is and washes his face, the other sees how clean the first is and remains a filthy casual forever. DPS meter is the mirror.

there are ways ZOS can prevent 3rd party programs from extracting combat data therefore completely eliminating dmg meters.
I dont care if we get them or not, though after thinking over the pro's and con's, I'd rather we didnt see dmg meters in ESO, though its really no big deal.
