Android Update Question....

Post » Tue Apr 02, 2013 2:24 am

I own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I just received the 4.2.2 Update this weekend and quite frankly, I [censored] hate it. I'm having a myriad of issues with it which I will list below.

* Battery depletes ridiculously fast.
* Screen turns on randomly regardless of how I have it set.
* I get random notifications.
* Slow to react or doesn't react at all.

* Now, granted, the battery life on the Nexus has always left something to be desired. BUT, I was always able to get 12+ hours on a single charge if I didn't use it a lot. Now, with the 4.2.2 update, I charge it, within two hours it's nearly dead and that's with me not using the phone. I'll plug it in on my way to work, it charges, I unplug it then by 10am I have to plug it back in.

* I'll be sitting there and the screen will turn on, then time out, then turn on, then timeout. With no input from me.

* It'll give me audible confirmation that I've received a text message or email but yet, there isn't anything new. Also, it resets my audio settings to muted regardless of how I've had them set.

* I'll unlock the screen and it'll just flash. Then after a minute or two it'll unlock. If I swipe to a new screen, it has to think about it.

Is there any possible way for me to roll back to the 4.1.2 update? I had none of these issues prior to the 4.2.2 update and 4.1.1 worked without issues.

Here's an article:

I'm out of warranty on the phone so if rooting is the only option then can anyone post me to an easy root? I'm always intimidated by rooting. When I rooted my LG Ally I didn't care if it bricked because I hated the phone. But I actually like my Nexus and don't want it bricked.

If you're phone is unlocked, you should easily be able to find an image of 4.1.1 around somewhere that you can flash over.

Before you roll back, try a factory reset to wipe the old settings from 4.1.

It's not unlocked. I was always under the impression that in order to unlock it you needed to root it. I've not rooted it. It's been on the to do list but the walk through are confusing to me.

It's the opposite, you need to unlock in order to root, not root in order to unlock. Unlocking for Nexus devices is as simple as issuing an adb command IIRC

Yes, but you can back it all up first. With OS updates on any platform, it's always a good idea to review the changed files and the changes themselves to help ensure things go smoothly.

Personally, I say do that on a mobile device only if you're experiencing problems due to their nature (I haven't had any issues with the 4.2 update myself on my Verizon Nexus; at least, not yet).
