Back up country?

Post » Mon Apr 08, 2013 3:10 am

I was talking with my dad the other day about the state of the United States and he eventually made me realize that the only other country I would really like to live in is Austrailia.

Austailia's offcial language is English, they don't tend to get themselves involved in wars (not in recent times anyways), and I can see Austrailia lasting for another century, which I don't forsee for the United States.

Canada would be too cold for my tastes and the United Kingdom is like Austrailia, but rains much more often, which sounds unpleasant.

So, in the event that your current country becomes unliveable, where do you plan to go?

Have fun with video game prices.

If I had to move I'm not sure where I would go.

I would be screwed, pure and simple. No other country would want me because my mere existence on their soil would be toxic.

Probably some mountainous woodland place up north or a nice place next to/on a river.

So I think Canada would fit the bill, If not then Venezuela, I've already been there on research studies with a friend (we discovered a new species of snake actually) and the village/town (I forget the name) was friendly enough.

France. Like Britain, only warmer and with cheaper wine.

Actually, when you say "back up"...

Being that I'm already an honourary Canadian, I'd probably just head north and disappear into the crowd.

Iceland. In any non-nuclear war scenario anyway, considering their NATO membership.

Other than that I'll place my bets on staying in Sweden, which seems to have a recurring habit of getting spared from the worst outcome in any catastrophe. I remember that terrorist attack in 2010 when a car bomb went off downtown right at the peak of christmas shopping, no one died except the suicide bomber. And it felt like such a typical thing for Sweden.

Not got the hordes of poisonous creatures though, so thats one of the few pluses..

I think it would be Canada for me though, somewhere remote.
Though to be honest, if i didnt need to worry about money, id likely just move up north in Scotland.

Germany wouldn't be bad. It has a great history, nice people, a pleasant climate and I already have a basic knowledge of the awesome language (which is fairly similar to my own in the first place). The only problem is that, given its close proximity and strong relations with the Netherlands, if things go to [censored] here for whatever reason then there's a good chance that Germany will be [censored] as well.

Might consider Switzerland too. Its the safest place in the world because everyone has their money there.
