Does luck really play a role in beta invites?

I only ask this question because maybe someone can clarify this for me. Because as of right now im in the belief that it doesn’t play a role as much as people think. I can't base this off of my own track record because that would really be naive of me considering its terrible. But if i look at this from a logical stand point there's a long line of VIPs for a lack of a better term before they truly come down to the general population. Now what do i mean by VIPs? Well here's a list of what i think a VIP is.

- Known or famous Guilds and their leadership.... I mean rub a few elbows get a few invites, send a gift basket maybe get your email address pushed up a little bit. I mean they did have a ‘’ sit down’’ with them or am I wrong?

- Friends and family, and in some cases your friends '' friend'' or '' friends''

- Obviously Gamer critics and magazines and their friends or maybe even the entire work place

And that's all i can think off the top of my head. And for those of you that would bash this logic it just proves you haven’t been out in the real world and learned the nature of the beast per say.

So does luck really play a role? My answer, to a certain extent but not before they take care of the people that line their pockets.

Well we know friends&family happened before the first beta rollout, but otherwise, I imagine they would prioritize such things, but not exclusively.
