Looks like we've been lied to again.

At least this time I found out before wasting $60. So, I heard from someone who got to try the game that spells can go through people. I thought this was pretty weird in an "action game" where you supposedly have to aim. Sounds like a typical tab targeting system. My fears were confirmed now that the leaked beta gameplay footage came out. No wonder they were so fast to get it removed. I noticed when the dude was fighting a mud crab that the crab had a red outline when his crosshair was near it. Not on it, near it. Even when his crosshair was a bit to the side of the crab his fireballs were still hitting it dead on. Looks like they basically stole the "aiming" system from SWG's NGE revamp. It's clearly tab targeting, except instead of hitting tab you just put your crosshair somewhere in the general vicinity of the target. There doesn't seem to be any aiming or any Elder Scrolls in this game.

Except to can see him miss when he wasn't aiming at a target and you can see him hit a mob that he did not have targeted. THe Soft lock was acting the exact way they said it would in interviews. They didn't lie, you simply gave yourself the wrong impression.

Dude we have known for a long time that there was going to be a soft-lock targeting system in the game. So, no, we haven't been lied too. They sent out a AUA: Combat and even specifically said that abilities would go through a target that steps in-front of the target that we were aiming at. Yes you still have to actually aim near the enemy to actually hit them. I can't just look up in the sky and still hit my target.

Yea but there are a lot of people that have been fooled, not by Zen, but by the millions of bloggers who think they run a gaming review site. They have been giving out incorrect information about this game since the beginning. It is always good to visit more reputable websites and the official website as well as this forum for more correct details.

I hasn't seen that. What I've seen over and over is them saying the words "action combat" every chance they get. I'm rewatching the video now and the guy just aimed at an NPC's foot and hit them in the chest. That's not action combat. That's not even remotely close to action combat. In one interview they said (paraphrased) "We know you guys have heard the 'action combat' line a million times now so we're not asking you to believe us. That's why we're bringing the game around to conventions so people can see it themselves and THEY can tell you." Well now I have seen the footage they didn't want us to see. They're completely lying through their teeth. This game is thinly disguised tab targeting and it'll fail just as quick as Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa and all the other games that didn't realize this [censored] doesn't sit well with us.

It's still Action Combat. They just added a soft-lock targeting system to the game. It does not work the same way as in WoW where you hard-lock and you can still hit targets that are behind you. You still have to actually aim at your target, but in the general area. If the target is on the right-hand side of my screen and I'm aiming at the left-hand side I'm going to miss that target.

Please learn the difference between Soft-Locking (Have to aim at target to hit) and Hard-Locking (Tab-Target).

I'm open minded as to how It'll turn out; I'll definitely at least try it.

Also, threads which discuss leaked footage directly get locked...so, if you wanted a discussion, you should have left the video out.

If you just wanted to say you're not buying the game, then...alrighty then.

edit: you should have left discussion of the video out.*

I really wonder what it would take to make some of these people that just hop from MMO to MMO and rip them to shreds happy with a game for once. Technology isn't as perfect as some of you seem to think it is, or else every game under the sun would have perfect precise combat and graphics that make you think you're right in the [censored] game yourself.

Hate to break it to you guys but we're not blind [censored], we're just realistic with our expectations. TESO is looking amazing to me so far and its not because OH MY GOD ELDER SCROLLS. I want something new from a company that makes games I love, and boom here it is. And it just happens to be an MMO which is great because I've been wanting a new one of those since WoW has lost its way and none of the other ones really make me happy. I'm going to play it for a long time unless they do something totally drastic and [censored], but so far there hasn't been anything that I felt was an offense against gaming or even half bad really. I hope they recognize the species of gamer that is never happy and can't commit to a game and doesn't try to impress them, because they'll fail before they even start if they try to make these people happy.
