Here is why I'm asking. A few weeks ago my Galaxy Nexus received the 4.2.2 update and my phone ever since then has been acting funny. At first I thought it was a software issue. So, I unlocked, rooted and then installed a custom ROM and for two days the phone was OK. Then it started doing all the same things it was doing before I did the root and ROM.
What is it doing?
The screen does not stay asleep, which means the phone never sleeps. Which in turn drains my battery. So I started doing a little research, did the things that were mentioned on how to determine if it's a software problem or a hardware problem. I've come to the determination that it's a hardware issue. It seems the USB charge port on the phone is bad. As it always thinks it's charging. I looked and the parts and tools for the repair are cheap and am debating on purchasing them. I've watched a bunch of how-to videos and it doesn't seem too difficult. But I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience with doing this?
I know, I know, why don't I just take the phone in for repair right? Well, here's the thing, it's out of warranty. So, Verizon is most likely going to bend me over for the repair. Plus I already went to Verizon I even asked about an early upgrade, which my wife and I have one upgrade on our account we've not used. Which, I was going to do yesterday. BUT since we are on the unlimited data plan if I do that we lose that plan. Then we are stuck with Verizon for two more years. Our contract is almost up and we're considering moving to a different carrier, so if I upgrade we're trapped. Which brings me to doing the repair myself so that I can run with the phone for the next 9 months until my contract runs out.
Anyone?
