Read about this yesterday, quite disgusting. Good thing I often make my burgers myself, or buy them from a local fast food place and not from one of the big chains
I remember buying some burger buns a few years back and being somewhat perturbed that they never went off. We eventually chucked them out, still looking pristine, though that was after just three or four months, not several years. I do wonder about eating the sort of food where even germs and mould aren't interested.
This reminds me of the movie Super Size Me. This bonus scene or whatever showed him putting each common item from McDonalds in a jar. The burgers and nuggets (iirc) rotted after a month but the fries looked like they came from the fryer a second ago.
I get the point they're trying to make, but I know first hand that hamburgers from Mcdonalds DO get moldy after a while. I bought a couple of double doubles from Mcdonalds one time and left one in the bag with some fries for like a week in my room under my bed. When I found it, it was green and molded.
The mold might have been present in your room. Heck, the stuff grows on Drywall and concrete.
What it probably means is the buns were already moldy when you bought the sandwich, it just had not colonized yet so you could see it. Like when bread looks great one day, then the next is green and fuzzy.

How can you explain that?
Poor hygiene
Seriously, leaving food open in your room and you weren't able to smell it?
Yeah, I read about this earlier. The burger refuses to die, and people eat that [censored]. I haven't been to McDonald's in many years, so no immortal burgers for me.
Damn, even bacteria don't want to eat it.Tells you much about the quality.
Strangely enough, there is Bacteria in the Butte Copper Mine that is eating what's in that water. Note, this water in the open pit mine is so toxic that if a bird lands on it, it is dead in 30 seconds, even if it does not drink any of the water. They have put up shotguns around the mine pit shooting off blanks to keep migratory birds from landing on it.
