Does anyone else worry about how many characters will names that do not fit the TES universe? It wouldn't ruin the game for me to see characters with names like zeroshadow 007 running around, but it would kinda ruin the immersion a bit. I've been encouraging the friends I have to be a bit more roleplay friendly with the MMORPG, and have suggested pages like http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Names for reference. (BTW, if you're worried about coming up with a good sir name, this link helps with that.)

I'm hoping that this game will have a name generator built into the character creation menu, to give players suggestions for how to do it right.

They could employ what some other mmos do and not allow numbers or special characters in peoples names. But then that just makes finding an unised name very difficult.

But in all honesty, if you are really put off by non-lore friendly names... then tough [censored].

I don't mind if they decide to put a name generator in to help people just get random names.

But I say no to making people have to have lore-friendly names. In all the TES games I was never made to have a name that was friendly to whatever race I was playing. As long as my name doesn't go against their naming policy (No numbers, can't use the same letter more than twice, has to have a first and last name, Lore names) then I should be allowed to use it no matter what. It just boils down to if you don't like that this guys name is Oprah Windfury you just going to have to ignore it.

The power of your imagination is such that you must itnore those names. Rename them in your head if you want. Turn new player Pwner into Newbius or something. Whatever helps. There are things you can supposedly 'tick' that will reduce the number of people not interested in RP names. Though it won't eliminate these things it should reduce them. For the most part.

Better yet, turn off nameplates, select an RP preference for your instance and /report any non-RP names in your RP instance.

Reported for non-lore friendly names? What kind of crap is that? Are we assuming that all non-lore names are things like Pwnzers69 and YourMom666? I plan on using Ikorus or Tabula if I can get them.

I don't see how either of those names are non-lore-friendly. They seem alright to me depending on the race you are, Ikorus (a variation of Icarus) sounds Breton and Tabula (Latin for slate, or record) could be...well, many races honestly.

/report any non-lore-friendly names you see. The GMs make the final decisions, anyway. And only do so in an RP-focused shard. Emerald Dream in WoW was like this, pretty standard MMOG stuff.

If I found I had a huge problem with it I'd just turn off nameplates, reporting non-offensive names to me seems intolerant.
