Re-Release DA & DA2 for newer systems/platforms

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 4:50 pm

We all love Dark Alliance, and Dark Alliance 2 and lets face it, with adjustment to newer gaming systems a re-release has the capacity to make a lot of money. Dark Alliance is such a popular title it would make money easily, and since Dark Alliance 2 is rare and not easy to come across due to the lack of release while gamesas was facing troubles, it wasn't given the chance for as much commercial success the first time and many people who love the first aren't even aware or haven't played the second. To a lot of people, a re-release of the second is as good as releasing a new game since they haven't played it. Demand is out there, a used copy of DA2 fetches a minimum of about 40 dollars and with the overhead available on systems like the PS3 you could easily fund new games with revenue from games already in existence that have an existing fan base and success without writing an entire new concept. We all want to see a DA3, and the funds from this could lead to that being easier as well as allowing us to continue playing our favorite games and giving designers the chance to revisit what really worked.

It would be great if we could do that, but we don't have the rights to those games any longer.

If we released DA and DA2, someone at Hasbro/Wizards/Atari would probably be very mad at us. :D

Sorry!

What about coming to some kind of agreement with Atari? They haven't released anything of late and the release of the DA games might be beneficial in some way to them as well, is there any talk of trying to gain the rights back?

We own the rights to the Dark Alliance name, not the Baldur's Gate part.

DA1 and DA2 are Baldur's Gate games. We can't re-release those.

As for an agreement with Atari, that's beyond my clearance level. :ugeek:

Well you must have a boss Chris, I mean show him what the fans are saying. You may own the Dark Alliance name. But for the story, we just don't feel you can do anything worthwhile with it without being able to use the Forgotten Realms.

And Chris, people say Dark Alliance and Baldur's Gate are unrelated. If gamesas did make Baldur's Gate III would it have been about Abdel the God of Murder appointing you to stop Eldrith from destroying Baldur's Gate. Because that would have been a low tone story to me.

And please show your supervisor this Chris. Think of the money you can make and the more games you can make. We want gamesas back! And I remember gamesas wasn't shy and I bet you gamesas still isn't shy. Rest in Peace Fallout Online

What makes you think that I haven't already done so? ^_^

Look, my bosses know that people want DA3. Heck, they want DA3. (Probably not as much as I want DA3, but I can't read their minds.)

Heck, I've even... oh, I can't mention that, right.

Well, anyways, rest assured that we've heard you guys about DA3. We know you want it. Let's hope we can do it someday!

Here's what I think. Your boss should tell his boss to tell the CFO to strike a deal with Atari, or Hasbro (I hear Hasbro's much more forgiving even though gamesas has never done anything wrong). Because I feel that you need the D&D setting to make a good Dark Alliance Game.

Or give your boss an idea you have and this game has all of the same gameplay, hack'n'slash, gore as DA and it's rated T, so it's like Dark Alliance and we can have a spiritual successor at least. And I'm probably sure that because you work at gamesas you do want DA3 more than I do. Rest in Peace Fallout Online

I don't think Hasbro can do anything directly, Atari has an exclusive license to all the Dungeons and Dragons game stuff until the year 2017 (and perhaps further if it's renewed again like it was in 2007). I'm sure an agreement with Atari can be reached assuming the two companies are on good terms.

Well then talk to Wizards of the Coast. See if they can make a contract between you and Atari. Atari doesn't have to like it, heck who said gamesas needed to be the publisher. Sure Black Isle made DA2, but Black Isle was part of gamesas so technically gamesas made it and that's the way we like it. If Atari publishes it, who cares. If gamesas develops it I care. If Bioware develops it, which will only happen if the rights go to EA, I care. If gamesas or Bioware publish it, who cares.

Or go with my plan, release a spirtual successor to DA. As to me, if it doesn't have any connection to the previous games then it's not a DA game. Rest in Peace Fallout Online

I don't work for any of these companies btw but again, Atari has an exclusivity deal so neither Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, or anyone can try to do anything without making a mess legally (not a lawyer either).

Well then release a spiritual successor or strike a deal with Atari. Chris please tell your boss that my whole town, well 30% of it, wants gamesas to strike a deal with Atari not only so that they can release D&D games but think of the other games you could make... Rest in Peace Fallout Online
