Welcome to the new QuakeCon Forums

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 4:06 pm

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the new forums. Please note that the new QuakeCon forums are part of the Bethesda Softworks forums, and therefore it is important that we abide by their rules. At the top of every subsection of the new QuakeCon forums is an important information thread. I suggest you read this thread and familiarize yourself with the rules of the new forums.

Thanks,
QuakeCon Moderators.

So in your opinion the QuakeCon community is defined by swearing and custom forum titles?

From what I seen the QC FORUM community is very much defined by the ability to say what they feel and express themselves the best that they can. Swearing often comes into that. Forum titles help people try to be something or do something special for the community or the event, to earn the recognition.

Being able to dish dirt out while laughing when its thrown back at you.

This new forum is just... soft... its a safe confined environment. But in a confined environment one can't grow very much....

Seriously censoring/locking the Forum Whor3s thread? That has been a lonnnnnnnnnnng tradition of Quakecon. They need to get over the word bc we are not using it in that manner.

Please tell me that this is only temporary.
Because I have nothing but hate for these forums.
First off my name was taken.. I have been "Paranoia" on the other forums forever!
I'm not even allowed to use it as my Display name because it is taken.

Custom Titles is the personification of your members.
Adds a little bit of a personal touch, creates a link between your members and the forums.
A sense of ownership of between its members.

Censorship had a serious way of making things worse then what it really is.
Removes the context in which things are spoken.

Quakecon is now a sub community not the Community.

I didn't realize that photo posting was disabled.

Who is moderating Quakecon? Is it the previous moderators? Or the people from Bethesda?
I noticed that the "Forum whor3s" thread was locked.. by some [censored] with a hate against people who congregate around forums...
So quakecon is no longer controled by those who are of quakecon.
Where is Xipher at? Did you remove his ability to moderate.

The pussification of the forums and I wait till more visit cause this is going to be amusing.

I have more to say but I'll pace myself. I'll leave some for someone else to post.

Xipher wiper and myself are moderating. There are other moderators that were here first but we're doing the main moderation. Yes, a moderator who was already on the gamesas forums moderated that thread, however that doesn't mean you can insult them, call them names, curse at them, etc. We're trying to be as lenient as possible while transitioning to the new forums, but if you start causing the other moderators issues I wont hestitate to warn you.

Thanks

It's my opinion that it sure as hell isn't defined by the novel-length rules pages that governs this place. Seriously, have you read all that? No leet speak! The handle that I've had for nearly a decade has (gasp) numbers in it where the letters should be! OH NOES!

(eyeroll)

Welcome to QuakeCon, now sanitized and neutered for your protection. (Or, more likely, the protection of Bethesda's bottom line.)

Transitions like this are always difficult. The original QC forum was something I visited 3 to 4 times a day. Only in the last few years have I started actively posting. Based on the situation, I do appreciate Bethesda stepping up and hosting the forum, but we can't help but feel like the new PC step child entering a house fool of Mac happy kids. The original forum was small in structure, as far as the active members, and now its a blip on the radar in a giant community. It is somewhat ironic in how it seems to mirror the seeming transition of Quakecon, which started out small and community oriented, and its growing into a more corporate, growth oriented lan. Just my observation.

Ultimately, growth is almost always positive and for the betterment of something. It seems that all signs are pointing towards a bigger, and better Quakecon, now the question remains, is it for the betterment or determent?

Shouldn't the forums be linked to from the QuakeCon.org site?

Right now the only way people know about the forums is from Facebook and word of mouth...

The "forums" knowing how old you are is actually to enforce the rules. If you respond too young you're not allowed to register. Also forum registration is not a thread.
