Hey there, just got my DOOM3 BFG Edition, problem is, after installing it, it gives me the following error when I try to start the game =

"The game is currently unavailable ( Application running )."

And after pressing OK, steam update news pops up as if nothing has happened... which is sort of the case.
Does ANYONE have any idea how to fix this?

Cheers...

PS. I have a similar problem with BRINK.

I'm mentioning that here because of the possibility that the problems could be related. DS.

Have you restarted the PC since reinstalling?
· When you get the error, are you able to open the task manager and identify whether or not the d3bfg exe is running?
· If the d3bfg exe is not running, have you attempted to end the Steam process from the task manager, restart Steam, and try again?
· Does this issue occur with any other games aside from Doom/Brink?

If the answer is yes to all of these, you might want to contact Steam customer support.

Thanks for the reply, here is an indepth re-reply.
- Several times, often in an attempt to try BRINK and/or Doom3 BFG

- Both d3bfg.exe and brink.exe flashes for about one second, then exits and leaves the errormessage(*)
(*) BRINK leaves no error-message, it just flashes the Splash Screen then exits.

- Yes for both games, restarted STEAM both times.

- Yes and no, I have MANY uninstalled games, but besides BRINK and Doom3-BFT
I have Borderlands 2 and Fallout: New Vegas, and they run fine at the moment.

BUT. I might point out something that might help explain the situation further.
- A while ago, Fallout NV started to behave strangely, the "loading Fallout New Vegas" screen
that STEAM shows you before starting a game started flashing with varying speed, the game refused to run.

- I needed to re-install Fallout NV to get the error to go away, but it does occationally crash to desktop,
and when performing a Cache Check afterwards, it reads one file as bad and re-download it.
- This specific "crash to desktop and dl of file" has happened several times.

But, it leans on being a STEAM problem... Or that I have not re-installed Windows in quite a while...

And in an effort to shed more light on the matter, here are my specs.
CPU/RAM: Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.40 @ 2.50 / DDR2 4096MB @ 1112Mhz
nVidia GeForce 580
Windows XP x64 - fully updated.

So, besides the old but trusty WinXP, my computer is up to code...

- So what should I do? Contact STEAM support?

**SOLVED**

Due to a deal made by the company, each employee got a "free" copy of Windows 7 (Licence-bound for three years).
Though I did not really wish to "upgrade" from Windows XP, old XP simply gave me too many problems with modern programs and games.

So, after installing Win7, followed by mandatory "de-idiotization process" (cleaning up the interface) I installed STEAM.
- First I tried BRINK, it worked! Then I tried DooM3 BFG-Edition and that worked as well!

So, now I can do my job AND play ALL the games I want.

Cheers!
