Current Gen Consoles in 2014

Post » Mon May 06, 2013 4:50 pm

This is a disappointment to me even though I’m really not interested in the game. How long will developers/publisher continue support for current gen consoles. We all know games are developed for the lowest common denominator and then ported up. God I hope Fallout 4 or next Elder Scrolls isn’t developed for current gen.

Because not everyone will have a next gen console in 2014. The Evil Within will come out for current AND next gen consoles anyways so don't get pissed that easy.

Even 2 years after 360/PS3 came out developers released their games cross gen because many people still had the old consoles at home and forgetting about these customers is a shot in the foot.

Why would customers (non-hardcoe) buy more powerful consoles or PC's if all the games come out on current gen too? Its a double edged sword, chicken and the egg type ting.

How big will be the next gen consoles base in 2014? It will be too small to allow sognificant sales, it makes sense to continue to support current gen at least, until 2015.

That's the thing all game won't be coming out on new consoles. Developers and publishers know what they are doing concerning this subject. It's best to support both generations for a while and ease everyone into the newest one. If it was a next-gen only title it would limit their sales significantly.

My guess is that current generation consoles will be supported for at least the first year of next generation consoles' lifespans.

This is because:

1) They'll need to help the transition phase, as not everyone will immediately jump ship or be able to afford next-gen consoles, and

2) Current gen consoles is still, and will still be, the largest audience when next-gen consoles just come out. It's more profitable to have more platforms, although this does increase the risk of technical faults in our games.

For the early days, I think the big difference between current and next-gen games (if the game is on both generations like The Evil Within) will be the graphical enhancements and absence of loading times on next-gen platforms.

I'd like to see lesser loading times but I suspect greater power and superior graphics will up the ante enough for this not to happen.
