Open world or no open world

Will this be like other bethesda projects and feature huge open world or will it be more linear.

It's only being published by bethesda. It's being developed by Tango Gameworks which is a new studio under zenimax, the parent company of bethesda.

Given that it's not being developed by Bethesda Game Studios (the guys responsible for TES and Fallout 3), I see no reason to assume it will follow their example and be an open world game.

But who knows? Open world survival horror might be interesting. From what we've seen though, I expect a solid dose of linearity - levels might be semi-open, but the mission sequence probably won't.

Yeah the chances are extremely slim that it would be openworld.

I personally don't think a horror game would be all that scary in openworld, the feeling of being trapped is what makes a game very horrifying. Knowing that there should be exits but there really aren't, they're all blocked out, so whatever's after you can get you. That makes you realize running isn't as much an option sometimes as hiding.

I'm especially interested to know if the perspective will be changeable. The one thing that really bugs me about Resident Evil is the gunplay.

It will be linear. Imagine it like Resident Evil. We may see partly open sequenzes but not a full big open world.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority here.

Bethesda is only publishing this title, so comparing it to games made by Bethesda Game Studios would be pointless. But I also think that it should not be open world. It's the enclosed environment that adds so much to the feeling of being "trapped" or "there's nowhere to go". I think if this were to be open-world, that it would kill the mood quite a bit.

I'd rather have a game like this be linear to be honest.

yeah, the feeling of being trapped somewhere helps add to the horror, if it was open world i could just run, instead of having to hide and actually be scared.

I want it to be linear. No open world. We are hoping for the eturn of survival horror, not it's re-imagining.

I think is safe to assume it will be very linear. Most survival horror game are, and small things point toward this also being the case for this.

i have to admit that im quite sad about this, because it only says how afraid the publishers (asf.) are afraid of trying something new.

And it'll very likely fall in with one of the three types of, already overused, "Suvival Horror" games; Silent Hill, Resident Evil or Painkiller.

Im thinking Resident Evil will probably be closest (and i base this on absolutely nothing).

I for one would welcome an attempt at a Open-World Survival Horror game.

I think Fallout 3 showed alot of potential i ways of how this could become a reality, and done quite well too. (dark-and-bleak-world-concept-thing, not anything else)

It's definitely not an Elder Scrolls-like open world game. Like other games from Mikami (like RE 4), there's exploration of large areas.
