Disappointing Last Level

Post » Tue May 07, 2013 12:49 am

I really liked Dishonored, it's a high quality enjoyable game.

The first two levels of the DLC were also great, I really enjoyed the whaling facility and the legal district.

....but

The third and last level was a real disappointment. A cut and paste job from the main game is not really on. In fact it's not even a full cut and paste, it's about a third of the flooded district level. That's just lazy.

When I am paying double the price of the city trials DLC, I don't expect just two levels and a cut n paste job.

The next DLC needs to be at least 4 original levels in my opinion to justify the price tag.

Indeed, I believe so. That last level is by far the worst in Dishonored and all of it's DLC's. It seems Arkane have a knack for anticlimactic endings, considering Kingsparow Fort was by far the blandest area in the base game.

I was not that disappointed but yes I would have preferred a new area and use the flooded district between missions where you can talk to your assassins.

That's how i thought it was gonna be like when i heard them say the flooded district and daud's base will be accessible. apparently not.

I loved the DLC and i get that it had to be short because they are still working on part 2. but IMO they should've added a few side contracts for Daud to perform that didn't relate to the story. just to spice the DLC a bit.

If the Birgmore Witches gonna be 3 missions as well im gonna be a bit disappointed.

It's not really an ending, more like a bridge between this DLC and the next one. As such, I find it does the job decently enough. That said, it went by a lot faster for me than the previous 2 levels..... I spent about 3 hours on each of the previous ones, and this one I was done with in under an hour.

I've finally completed both high and low chaos endings...

My first attempt was an unintentional high-chaos (I ended up just killing anything that moved in blind panic - LOL!). After the high-chaos ending, I posted somewhere to say I was a bit unsure about the ending, how it was too sudden - as if the DLC had quit "right in the middle of the movie". However, now that I've played the low chaos version, the ending makes much more sense now and makes it quite clear there's more to come.

I don't like frantic battles and so I much preferred the low-chaos ending, not finding it at all disappointing. Lurk was pretty close to who I expected, appearance-wise, so I think I must have seen some sneak-peak in a review somewhere. As for re-using the Flooded District - I actually liked that (it gave reason for all those dead Overseers in the Flooded District in the original game).

I would have to agree with this. I liked the Flooded District in the main game (probably my favourite level in fact), but reusing it virtually unchanged is poor game design. Other than that, I really like the new areas, I would probably rate both as some of the best missions in Dishonored as a whole.

I guess, given that Daud's place should be more or less the same as when Corvo encounters it a little later in that timeframe, it's probably right that it isn't much changed. However, it would have been cool to have different areas opened up - places Corvo never saw. For the familiar places such as Daud's, I remember feeling indignant that some things were a little different (Daud's desk was replaced by a trunk, for example). However, what should have been annoying but I instead found amusing was that some of my trusty hidden perches were no longer available!! Broken windows were not yet broken, some passages buried in mud and some doorways were bricked up (I assume the flood must have unbricked them). It led to some misplaced blinks followed by panicked escapes! Naughty Arkane - messing with my mind!

I did like that the Flooded District actually wasn't flooded (much) at that stage. With this and the place swarming with Overseers, it all began to piece together and I thought the parallels were neat - adding more 'history' to the main game.

I think it would have been ok for Arkane to use the flooded district as the base between levels - just like in the main game where the pub/bar was used to buy upgrades.

Had they done that, and then provided one more new/original area I would have felt like I'd had value for money.

As it is, I feel Arkane need to provided 4 original areas in the next DLC to justify the £8 price tag. I really think the city trials at £4 were better value pound for pound. 4 areas and maybe one more supernatural power for Daud and I will be happy.

I'm guessing they didn't let us use Daud's Hideout because just like what happens to Corvo's hideout, the place gets ransacked. I'm guessing.

While I am not as disappointed that the Flooded District was reused, I was expecting more of the level. Like more areas we had not been, or a cut scene of some sort showing the Overseers being taken out on the bridge bottleneck. The lower tide should have allowed for more buildings available or something like that. Too short.

I really liked that we got to go back to Daud's lair as Daud, but I agree that it was very disappointing that there was no additional areas to explore.

Did anyone else notice that Daud's office is rearranged and he redeploys the plans for the Empress's Assassination on the floor before Corvo arrives?

The Overseers mention some information, but the floormap etc.. is all missing.

The first 2 missions were very creative, the last one, not so much, but still okay, but i'm really disappointing that there were only 3 missions.

imo, the next DLC should be like maybe 4-6 missions

Well this may be a stupid question but anyone know why they decided to separate both DLC rather than making it one big DLC?

Extended shelflife and increased revenues from selling 2x DLC packages.

As ShadowFox said. They're making us wait longer; keeping us more interested, because when we think about the next DLC, it makes us play. And, in a year or so, when someone buys it new or used, they have to buy them separate assuming they don't have the money all at once, which is about 50/50 chances, then they have to wait longer to buy it. Essentially meaning that even in a year or two, it'll still have the same shelf life as it does now. It's a fairly intelligent tactic, if not slightly annoying for those of us waiting around. But hey, it's worth the wait.
