Rothwild safe combination

Getting the safe combination for Rothwild office safe eluded me for awhile so thought I'd post hint/spoiler. Before this DLC, I'm pretty sure never ran into a safe where the code wasn't explicitly noted as a safe combination, once you found it that is. But in this case the mission was VERY subtle about providing the numbers, so I was frustrated at first hunting all over the map for an explicit safe combination clue when it turned out I'd already picked up the safe code but didn't know it.

Hint: one of the notes you pickup provides a subtle combination for the safe in Rothwild office, but it makes no mention of safe at all and the topic of the note seems completely unrelated.

Explicit spoiler: code for me was 512. The note was an "accident report" picked up inside the slaughterhouse somewhere outside Rothwild's office. It mentions something like how many days or weeks it's been since the last accident, how many people got hurt, etc. The three numbers given in this note, in the order it is given, is the safe combination. Only played through once so not sure if the safe combination changes or not, but it should be whatever numbers are in this accident report note.

I had the same problem. I was reading all notes and book but apparently I missed the code.

Code was the same for me as well by the same note. it was outside the office but still on the same floor. Tricky, would have never have gotten it if I was not specifically searching for it. I was just looking for any numerical data from letters no matter how irrelevant it was. I knew it had to be referenced somewhere if not then well. it is only 3 digits... wouldn't not take that long by guess work. I am sure the developers will never make it that tedious for us.

I was hoping for a better puzzle to be frank. I kinda facepalmed when I found it. Why would the number of fatalities in a week be used by Rothwild for his safe combination!?! I thought it would be some numbers relevant to him or scribbled in some secret place. This was... weird.

I thought that at first as well but then I thought that he must change his code quite regularly, the fact that the note was not referenced to the safe (and nothing to do with it) at all made it a good choice for Rothwild to use as he had a copy of it and people who read the note won't think twice about the significance of the numbers. It is quite clever actually.

I was going crazy over this as well, looking at all the notes in the office, trying to find things written on walls. In the end I gave up, but it's good to know for the next playthough, perhaps I'll pay more attention to other bits of paper.

You have a point and I did think about it (I was looking for this kind of stuff too, I was even anolysing the numbers on the whale, 'cause I figured it's something he would look at every day so it was convenient), but when you choose unrelated numbers for a code, you've got to keep them close, not in another office where it's there one day and in the trash the next. Can you imagine this: "Miss Thompson, where's the report on fatalities from last week? No, the week before. It was on this windowsill two days ago". But oh well, I guess it teaches you to keep your eyes open.
