Online buying in the US..

Because there are political ties to this, this topic only serves as a heads up. Mods already know what to do if it gets..well, crazy, I guess.

Right now would be a good time to get any online game buying out of the way because senate passed a bill for online tax. It hasn't gone through the house though. There is high favor for it, so its likely to go to be a done deal.

Many retailers are complaining at being at a disadvantage because of online merchant sales being tax free.

This would be a big deal for those somewhat expensive hard to find old games some of you might be saving up for.

5% in country

10% out of country. I probably got it backwards.

Am not sure if this will apply to steam.

This was in my newspaper, so I got no online links to give.

Most everyone should already know about this anyway.

As I said, it was on todays newspaper(USA Today(no pun intended)).

I found a link for it here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/06/online-sales-tax-bill_n_3225867.html

This is heavy on the politics side, so if a mod wants to close this, I got no problem with it..

I think Australia already has something like this, where you have to pay tax on items bought from overseas online that cost over $10,000 (not sure of the exact figure, it's probably a lot) lower or something. My Mum had an SLR camera held up for weeks at customs as they investigated the price.
