For those that studypractise the arcane arts!

From a RP perspective i am curious to know why you or rather your character either was or wasn't affected by the great cataclysm in the east.

Just to let you know i myself am in no way part of anything that deals with magic eventhough i did make a mention of the event in my journal (see signature), in fact i do NOT trust anyone or anything related to the arcane 'arts'! Just curious what people have thought up so to speak...

My Rp character was spared during the arcane explosion … but for rp purposes she was left just a little on the mad side. She has this voice that keeps talking to her she has named nammu... (Means no name)… She argues with him and as good as she is he is just as dark and she struggles to not just slip into that darkness. So when she argues with him or undertakes any type of journey and choices a path she demes good. Nammu will try to talk her into the other path …leading into many an argument with herself, hence why people think she is just a touch disturbed.

Nammu seems most silent when she is singing, and she does that often when she needs a break from his constant nagging….makes for a good story from a mad/ borderline psychotic point of view.

Just for my enjoyment and to keep me occupied I have detailed most of it in my web site … always adding to the story

As a serious Sorcerer I can not be bothered by trivial day to day events like the world ending. I have better things to do with my time.

Personally, I've been rping the same character since Morrowind and am currently working on a head canon where Molag Bal uses the Elder Scrolls to blast himself back into the past, much like the Nordic Dragonborns used one to send Aldi into the future. His arrival altered the established time-line, which is what set off the explosion. Once there, he began using the time wound that he had created to begin bringing his Daedra through, allowing him to bypass the agreement that Akatosh made with Alessia. Akatosh, sensing what Molag Bal was up to, opened a portal to Oblivion and sent my character to retrieve the scrolls. He failed, and was blasted back in time after Molag Bal. He arrived just after the arcane explosion, and thus wasn't affected by it.

What exactly was this great cataclysm in the east? Forgive my ignorance, but I dont know every piece of elder scrolls lore, and I'm curious how this might be of import to my sorceror.

4 years before the game started, there was an explosion of arcane energy in the Imperial City that either killed or caused many mages to go mad.

I have a Argonian character concept who is linked to my Dunmer assassin. He is a friend if hers in the backstory, although he doesn't see himself as a mage. He sees himself more as a shaman of the Hist who can speak with animal spirits and ancestor ghosts. It is through these he learns magic and how to control his power.

Alright, but I cant see that extending very far, not without completely wiping cyrodiil off the map anyways.

My sorceror is a khajiit, he was in elsweyr at the time, thus not effected =P

Not sure if it only affected Cyrodiil though...

If the explosion didn't envelop or affect the entirety of tamriel. Then my character wasn't affected due to being based out of Morrowind/Skyrim.

If the effects of the explosion affected all bound to the arcane to varying degrees then the amendment's to my bio are slight.

At this point in the storyline my character was already an advlt or young advlt. Having been an unwilling and helpless witness to horrific tragedies which include but are not limited to Barbarism, Racism, and the slaughter of his family and friends. Forcing him to make choices he'd never even considered just to survive. Being pitted against enemies who'd sooner murder him then allow him to threaten their existence.

Something that drives one mad has little affect on one who calls insanity his home, his very world.

"Four years ago, in 2E 578, an arcane explosion of energy in the Imperial City set off mystical aftershocks that swept across Nirn."

The whole planet was affected actually.

I forgot about that. And unfortunately, I don't have enough details on the full metaphysics of why and how it happened to really come up with rational lore-based reasons for why some weren't affected, or were affected to lesser degrees.

So, I'm taking the simple explanation for why Venitas wasn't affected: youth. 4 years ago, when the event happened, he was a mere student and not yet an actual mage. Coincidentally, this also justifies why he has only first-level magical abilities at the start of the game
