Woke up a coward

After a long night of staying up reading, not really feeling tired as it had been my day off and I had woken up pretty late, I thought it might still be appropriate to lay my head down for a quick power nap as I have work late today. I opened my window and laid down, and not even 5 minutes had passed of me napping when I was startled by a sudden noise as the first bumble bee I've seen all summer came storming in through my window, buzzing loudly and banging against the window. I panicked as I had really not been expecting that, (I haven't even seen any flies as of yet, we've had snowy days and I wasn't aware that flying insects were already up and about) and jumped out of my bed that by the way is up against the window with my pillow being where the window opens.

Turning to look at the window and the buzzing noise I saw it was a bumble bee I breathed a sigh of relief "oh it's just a bumble bee", feeling my heart start to beat a little slower I started scavenging my room for something with which to trap and release the bumble bee. I first picked up a round glass thinking I'd trap it with that, noticing the bee had stopped itself at the corner of my window opposite to where it opens I felt a small uneasiness and thought "they don't normally sting except when agitated, but agitating it is exactly what I'll do by trapping it, I should find something with a square corner so it will have less chance to dodge me as I try to trap it than if I used the round glass", so I found myself a small hand sized cardboard box and decided to try again.

Only I ended up only watching it waiting for the right moment, flinching a little every time it tried to fly, despite it just flying back and forth face first into the window. Now I've caught stray bumble bees and even honey bees to release them back outside many times before and even worked in outside jobs where I've had to work with swarms of honey bees flying around with no problem or hesitation, which is why I'm so surprised at myself for having just waited and waited for the right moment to trap the bumble bee until it just eventually found its way towards the open window by itself.

So I make this thread dedicated to those that have found themselves being cowardly towards something that they should have no problems facing from previous experiences to share their own stories, and for any individual who has never acted in such a way to openly mock, sneer at and make japes at my expense on behalf of my sudden streak of cowardice. :ahhh:

I was doing a little 'man with a van' job the other day, clearing out a garage that had not been cleaned or sorted for years. Truly horrible work, chemicals like paint stripper and engine oil spilt from jars, old manky clothes, rusted metal, boards rotted from damp etc. Full of big nasty looking spiders which aren't a bother for me. Then I noticed a centipede about two inches long on my arm. I have to admit my blood ran cold. Instead of brushing it off immediately, I just stood and stared at it crawling on me, thinking of those things from the King Kong game despite the size difference. How can one be stupid enough to be too scared to touch something that is already on your skin anyway?

Definitely a girlie-la-la moment I am not proud of. Once I had thrown it off to the floor, I really had to fight the urge to stamp on it (I have been vegetarian for 28 years, all life is precious and bugs in the house get moved, not killed), which made me even more ashamed. It's funny how you can be a big strong hard working man one second, and frozen with fear and revulsion, helpless as a wain, the next.
