How to shut laptop but not put into sleep mode?

Post » Fri May 10, 2013 5:11 pm

Windows 8 ***

I have a laptop that I use on my TV via HDMI, and I have set it up so that my screen turns off when I plug it into my TV, so that it only displays on the TV and not the laptop. That's great. But, I want to be able to shut my laptop without it turning off. Is there a setting for this?

More detailed explanation of what I want to do because this is the internet and people are quite often confused by text:

I want to plug my laptop into my TV and shut my laptop instead of it being required to stay open, because the screen isn't displaying anything anyway.

I essentially want to make it so when my laptop closes, it stays on just like it is when it's upright and on.

Control Panel -> System and Security -> Power Options -> Choose what closing the lid does (on the left side)

I imagine that would be it but can't test it right now.
