Welcome to Werewolf!

If you're new to Werewolf, it is a murder mystery we occasionally play here on the forum (with consent). It is similar to the party game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_%28party_game%29, but we've added a RPG twist. The basic premise of the game is that some of the players are murderers (usually Werewolves) who try to kill all the innocent players before the innocents can figure out who the murderers are. Whichever team is eliminated first, loses.

== Setting ==

A small desert sprawls around you… But how did you get here? A random assembly of survivors joins you, each seeming just as confused and disheveled as you. The sun beats hot upon your backs, and the water supply looks to be enough for just a week – unless you can find somehow discover more in this bleak landscape. If you keep moving, there may be clues to your salvation. Perhaps worst of all, though, was the inhuman growls you heard yesterday in the dark of night…

This game takes place on Earth, in modern times.

== Joining ==

If you want to join this game, please fill out this character profile. Try to be thorough, because I use them to generate the clues whenever a murder happens!

Name:

Age:
Physical description: Height/weight/eyes/hair. Relative terms (ie: pudgy) are fine.
Clothing: What are you wearing right now? Include 1 or 2 colors.
Occupation: What does/did your character do for a living?
Hobbies: What does your character do in their spare time?

Possessions: Include 3 to 5 things that you might carry with you.
Personality: How does your character act? Include 3 to 5 traits.
History: Where does your character come from and why are they here? Please be concise and marginally detailed. 3 to 5 sentences is perfect.

You may also reserve a spot by saying so in this thread. Then fill out your character profile between now and the due time.

Note: I reserve the right to add details to your profile if I feel it is too generic, so I encourage creativity.

Character profiles are due by: THURSDAY May 16 at 11:59PM, Eastern Standard Time. The game shall start 24 hours thereafter. The game will be capped at 30 players, and have a 16 player minimum.

Some basic rules for this game:

== Daily Procedure ==

The game day will run from approximately 12:00AM EST (5:00AM BST) to exactly 10:00PM EST (3:00AM BST) – 22 hours.

Each day, players will exercise their abilities:

  • Everyone can vote on a MOVE the group will take.
  • Everyone can vote on a player to publicly PROTECT.
  • Everyone can vote on a player to publicly EXECUTE.
  • Special roles can do their special actions.

MOVE: Each day, a set of choices will be presented to players as to how they can move the next night, and the move receiving the most votes will be chosen. Depending on the move, a different set of clues will be provided to players. A few of the moves may even help or hinder some or all of the group – so plan your moves carefully.

Please note: due to the nature of the MOVE system, there will not be a map for this game.

PROTECT: Each day, players can publicly vote on a person to protect. That person will be immune to the action of wolves (murder or conversion) for that night. A simple majority of votes is required for protection. In the case of a tie for protection, a random selection will determine which of the two will be protected (1 in 3 for each), with equal (1 in 3) weighting for a botched protection, in which neither will be protected.

EXECUTE: Each day, the player receiving the most execution votes will be executed. At least 20% of players must vote for that person for the execution to occur. A double execution happens if 50% or more of players vote and the top two suspects are tied for votes. Triple executions won't happen, so don't bother! Tie votes with fewer than 50% of players voting will be treated the same as protection.

Posting: Underline your name. Italicize actions. Bold votes and questions to the host. OOC anything not in character, though try to stay in character.

This game will run over several days, but individual days will not necessarily have individual threads. Instead, each day will be linked to in the opening post and will begin at the point in the thread that the previous day left off. Please allow the host (me!) to make the first two posts of any thread.

== Roles ==

Innocent: The basic role. Innocents have no special powers. Like everyone else, they can vote to determine the move for the night, vote to protect one person, and vote to execute one person suspected of being a wolf.

Angel (1): The Angel is a human that acts as a protector for the innocents. Each night, the Angel may PM the name of one person (other than himself) to the host to protect them against wolf attacks or conversions.

Arch-Wolf (1): The head of the pack, the top dog. The Arch-Wolf organizes and executes the hunt each night, and can PM freely with his fellow wolves. Each night, the Arch-Wolf will PM the host with the name of a player to be attacked. If the Arch-Wolf should be executed, the longest-serving wolf under him shall become the next Arch.

The Arch-wolf also possesses the means to recruit up to TWO (2) additional wolves for his pack (three additional if 24 players or more). The Arch may do this recruitment on ANY night, but is limited to a single recruit per night. Additional recruits can help cause confusion, but will also lead to additional evidence.

Wolf (2): Wolves have been tainted by the dark side of nature. Each night, the wolf executes the orders of the Arch-Wolf. They can freely PM the Arch and any other wolves in order to plan and discuss future actions.

You are free to claim to have any role in the thread, whether it is the truth or a lie.

== Final Thoughts ==

If something is unclear or conflicts arise with another player, let me know and I will address it. My inbox is always open. If I make a statement, it shall be accepted as fact. I'm lenient when it comes to roleplaying, and will allow it so long as it does not detract from the game (or attract the attention of moderators). Other than that, I just want to wish you all a good time.
